OC all-star coaches … your suggestions, please

January 10th, 2012, 8:14 am by

Any day now, Phil Anton of the Brea Lions will ask Fryer and Albano to help the Lions select the North and South coaches for this summer’s Orange County All-Star Football game.

The Lions try to avoid selecting men who have coached in the game previously, but that is difficult to do. So, at least the Lions try to avoid guys, coaches who are veterans to some degree, who coached in the game fairly recently.

Last year’s coaches were Myron Miller of Tustin (South) and Michael Cobleigh of Cypress (North).

There are some good coaches who have not coached in the game, because they have turned down the offer — coaches like Mike Marrujo of Valencia, Jeff Bailey of Yorba Linda and Troy Thomas of Servite. Either of those three would be great choices for the North team this year. Most everybody else you could think of as a worthy candidate has coached in the game, believe me.

What about, for the South, Harry Welch of Santa Margarita or Robert Frith of El Toro? Jon Hamro of San Clemente (first year as head coach in 2011, sure, but what a year!) … Eric Lo of Huntington Beach?

Give us your suggestions for North and South coaches.
