TOP FOUR SEEDS: 1. Paraclete, 2. Oak Hills, 3. Ontario Christian, 4. Citrus Valley.

ORANGE COUNTY AT-LARGE TEAMS: None.

NOTE: This division has one Orange County team in it, Whittier Christian, led by Colin Ashworth and Mike Rubio.

TOP FOUR SEEDS: 1. Desert Christian of Bermuda Dunes, 2. Malibu, 3. Capistrano Valley Christian, 4. Flintridge Prep.

COUNTY PLAYERS TO WATCH: Chazz Williams, St. Margaret’s; Chris Cooper, Crean Lutheran; Aaron Anast, Capistrano Valley Christian; Gabe Katz, Tarbut V’Torah;

Football: Servite center transfers to Whittier Christian

Junior offensive lineman Parker Subia (6-0, 230) has transferred to Whittier Christian from Servite, his father, Terry, reports.

Subia, a center, started on Servite’s freshman team in 2010 and started several games for the junior varsity last season.

He also has twice been invited to the Football University Top Gun camp in Virginia.

Subia is the second Servite offensive lineman to transfer to Whittier Christian in recent seasons. Matt Hearn also transferred to Whittier Christian from Servite and played as a senior in 2011.

Whittier Christian senior-to-be wide receiver Cody Bronkar (6-4, 175) has committed to Air Force, the Heralds football program reports.

Air Force was the first program to offer Bronkar.

Football recruiting: Whittier Christian receiver hauls in first offer

Whittier Christian senior-to-be wide receiver Cody Bronkar (6-3, 175) was offered Friday by Air Force, Donn Hearn, a college football liaison for the Heralds reports.

Bronkar racked up 67 receptions for 893 yards and seven TDs last season for Whittier Christian.

Hearn said in an e-mail that Bronkar was scheduled to visit Air Force this weekend. The wide receiver wasn’t part of the last OCVarsity recruiting rankings for the class of 2013 but look for him join the group soon.

Football recruiting: Whittier Christian duo commit

Whittier Christian senior football players Grant Escobar and Matt Hearn have committed, Heralds coach Sergio Gradilla said Thursday.

Escobar (5-11, 190) has committed to Army as a running back while Hearn (6-5, 240) has committed to NAIA Rocky Mountain College in Montana as a tight end, Gradilla said.

Mid-Valley preview: Whittier Christian vs. Monrovia

MID-VALLEY DIVISION
MONROVIA (8-3) VS. WHITTIER CHRISTIAN (7-4)
Where, when: Whittier College, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: For the third consecutive season, the Heralds face Monrovia in the playoffs. Last season, Monrovia defeated Whittier Christian, 38-8, in the CIF-SS Mid-Valley Division final.

Girls cross country: Whittier Christian’s Hunt to run in sweepstakes at O.C.C.

Whittier Christian senior and all-county runner Kellian Hunt has been added as an individual competitor to the sweepstakes race of Saturday’s 45th annual Orange County Championships.

Foothill head coach and meet manager Matt Bell confirmed Hunt’s  addition via email.

Fryer on football: St. Margaret’s vs. Whittier Christian

ST. MARGARET’S (1-1) VS. WHITTIER CHRISTIAN (1-2)
Where, when:
Whittier College, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: It’s a matchup of the two best small schools teams in Orange County football. St. Margaret’s lost to Coronado two weeks ago, then rolled to a 44-0 victory over a Washington state team, Orcas Island (where bodysurfing must be as risky as it is at the Wedge, just a different form of risk). Football: Whittier Christian lands 'step-up' game against Esperanza

In an interesting pairing set for Sept. 2, Whittier Christian’s football team will play host to Esperanza at Whittier College at 7 p.m.

Whittier Christian hails from the Mid-Valley Division, which is considered Division 11.

Esperanza belongs to the Southwest Division, which is considered Division 6.

Interestingly, Whittier Christian called Esperanza for the game.

“We feel we’re ready to step up,” Whittier Christian coach Sergio Gradilla said. “We feel this is a step-up game and we definitely need to be ready for them.”

Whittier Christian: The Heralds (22-5) are the only county team in this division’s playoffs. They won the Olympic League championship with an 11-1 league record.
