Fryer on football: St. Margaret’s vs. Whittier Christian

September 21st, 2011, 4:59 pm by

ST. MARGARET’S (1-1) VS. WHITTIER CHRISTIAN (1-2)
Where, when:
Whittier College, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: It’s a matchup of the two best small schools teams in Orange County football. St. Margaret’s lost to Coronado two weeks ago, then rolled to a 44-0 victory over a Washington state team, Orcas Island (where bodysurfing must be as risky as it is at the Wedge, just a different form of risk). Whittier Christian took on a big challenge in Week 0, in which the Heralds lost to Espernza, 49-34. Read the rest of this entry »

Fryer: Mid-Valley final analysis, prediction

December 9th, 2010, 3:43 pm by

Mid-Valley Division

Whittier Christian (12-1) vs. Monrovia (11-2) at Arcadia HS, Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

Analysis: If you have a good passing game at any level of high school football, it is an advantage. At this level, which used to be called Division XI of the CIF-Southern Section’s 13 11-man football divisions, it is a large advantage.

Whittier Christian Stephen Anderson has had a great year, and is Orange County’s leader in passing yardage. Monrovia went into the playoffs as the division’s second-seeded team, and has played like with three one-sided playoff victories. But Monrovia has not faced a passing like the one Whittier Christian will bring to this game.

Prediction: Whittier Christian 21, Monrovia 14
