Signing day: El Dorado baseball signees

November 14th, 2012, 12:36 pm by

Pitchers Joe Record and Seve Romo signed their letters of intent today. Record signed with UC Santa Barbara. Romo signed with University of San Diego.

Record was 1-2 last year with a 1.65 ERA in 17 innings. The highlight of his 2012 season came in the championship game of the National Classic, when Record took a no-hitter into the seventh and final inning of El Dorado’s 4-2 victory over El Toro. It was Record’s first start of the season.

Romo was 0-3 with a 2.80 ERA in 20 innings.

Many, if not most, baseball players get much of their recruiting and scouting attention during their non-high school baseball activity — travel teams, fall ball and the like. Same with basketball recruiting, because of the way the NCAA has fashioned its recruiting calendars.

Conlon is among a large group of good returning players for the Golden Hawks in 2012.

Orange County 2010-11 boys basketball player of the year Chris Anderson signed his letter of intent with University of San Diego, the university announced today.

Anderson, a 5-foot-9 guard at Canyon, was set to sign with U of SD last week, but an ongoing investigation into alleged point shaving involving the university’s men’s basketball program made Anderson reluctant to do so.

Anderson has not yet returned a voice mail today.

Chris Anderson delays signing with U of SD

April 12th, 2011, 5:56 pm by

Canyon senior guard Chris Anderson, the county player of the year for the 2010-11 season, will not sign a letter of intent
Wedneday with University of San Diego, the school to which he committed a few months ago. According to Canyon coach Nate Harrison, Anderson and the Anderson family want to get a better  understanding of potential sanctions that could result from an FBI investigation, and then an NCAA investigation,  into alleged point-shaving at USD men’s basketball.

Harrison said Anderson, who made his official recruiting visit to USD over the weekend, still intends to sign with USD and will not re-enter the recruiting process.

Wednesday is the first day of the regular signing period for a number of sports, including basketball.
