It’s going to be a big day on OCVarsity with full coverage of Signing Day for several sports.
Edison is getting things going with an event right now on campus that is scheduled to involve 10 athletes making their college decisions final. Mater Dei is up at 8 a.m. with a ceremony for, at last count, 13 athletes signing a National Letter of Intent or announcing their choices to attend schools that don’t use the NLI process.
There are other big events today at Santa Margarita, Troy, Corona del Mar and La Habra that we know of, and other schools certainly will be doing smaller things to commemorate the big day for their athletes.
If you’re an athlete who is signing or a signing athlete’s parent or coach, please email us with the news and any photos of the signing to preps@ocregister.com.
The latest Signing Day news from the OCVarsity blog:
Troy water polo player Holly Smith and Mater Dei water polo player Claire McKinnon have committed to universities, their coaches report.
Smith has committed to UC Santa Barbara, reports Eric Benson, her club coach with Huntington Beach Water Polo Club. Smith was part of the HBWPC’s 18-and-under national championship squad at Junior Olympics this past summer.
McKinnon has committed to Maryland, Monarchs coach Chris Segesman confirmed.
UC Santa Barbara also has landed a commitment from Foothill attacker Jessie Porter. That’s some nice recruiting by the UC Santa Barbara.
Please send recruiting notes on aquatics to Dan Albano at dalbano@ocregister.com

Two very good baseball coaches, Dane Ilertsen of Troy and Pete Tereschuk of Laguna Hills, resigned at the conclusion of this baseball season.
Ilertsen coached Troy to 309 victories in 21 seasons, with three league championships.
Tereschuk coached Laguna Hills for all but two seasons since 1990, and rolled up 279 wins and eight league titles. His brother, Tom, is Chapman University’s baseball coach.
Ilertsen will remain at Troy as a Special Ed. teacher. Tereschuk remains at Laguna Hills, where he will continue to coached freshman football and probably will coach lower level baseball, too.
