CIF-SS passes Trinity proposal

February 2nd, 2012, 9:36 am by

At today’s CIF council meeting, a proposal to eliminate “athletically motivated” from rules on transfer eligibility passed by a vote of 41-33.

The Council is made up of representatives of the Southern Section’s 86 leagues. The Trinity League created and presented the proposal.

Now, it goes to the CIF State Federated Council, where it gets presented in May and voted upon in October. If passed at the state level, “athletically motivated” would be deleted from CIF transfer eligibility rules beginning with the 2013-14 school year.

JSerra suspends JV football for 2011

September 7th, 2011, 4:15 pm by

JSerra will not field a junior varsity football team this season, JSerra coach Jim Hartigan said Wednesday.

Hartigan said the number of football-playing sophomores and juniors is not high, and many of the players in those classes are on varsity.

Hartigan said he does not want to see too many players have to go both ways in a JV game and does not want to have players participating in a full JV game one day and then a varsity game the next.

October 30th, 2010, 2:16 am by

We have a new streak in the Trinity League. After 20 years of Mater Dei dominance over Servite, the Friars are now in control of the series.

In front of more than 15,00 rabid fans at Angel Stadium, Servite defeated Mater Dei, 21-14, on Friday night, making it two consecutive wins for them over the Monarchs.

O.C. football Top 25: No. 1

August 29th, 2010, 8:24 pm by

1. Servite
14-1 overall, 5-0 in the Trinity League last year

The Friars hit a grand slam last year. They beat Mater Dei for the first time since 1988, went undefeated in the Trinity League for the first time, won the CIF-Southern Section Pac-5 Division championship, and won a CIF State title, too. It’s going to be difficult to top that, but Servite has what it takes to have another outstanding season.

O.C. football Top 25: No. 6

August 27th, 2010, 11:17 pm by

6. Orange Lutheran
(6-5 overall, 4-1 in the Trinity League last year)

It was a down year, 2009, by the Lancers’ high standards. They lost senior quarterback Bobby Wheatley to pneumonia. Mike Markovsky filled in fine, and was named All-Trinity League, but the offense was not the same. Lutheran could be better, offensively and defensively, this season.

15. Santa Margarita
(3-7 overall, 0-5 in the Trinity League last year)

It seems a longshot that Santa Margarita will finish in the top half of the Trinity League, but this should be a much improved team.
