February 1st, 2012, 9:01 am by

San Clemente quarterback and Elite 11 member Travis Wilson has signed with Utah, the senior said in a text message Wednesday.

Wilson is the No. 4-ranked recruit in Orange County’s senior rankings. He was the first passer from his class offered by quarterback guru Norm Chow. And despite Chow’s move to Hawaii, Wilson stayed true his commitment.

“(I feel) really good,” Wilson said in a text. “I’m excited to be a Ute.”

Football: SC’s Wilson shines in season opener

September 3rd, 2011, 2:10 am by

San Clemente quarterback Travis Wilson, left, threw three TD passes in Friday's game. / David Bro, For the Register.

San Clemente senior Travis Wilson was recently selected as OC Varsity’s top quarterback to watch this season and the fourth best player overall.

After watching him play in the Tritons’ season opening 35-6 victory over Cabrillo  of Long Beach on Friday night, it’s easy to see why.

Wilson threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score.

The Utah commit displayed great touch on all three scoring passes, including a beautiful 51-yard touchdown strike to senior wide receiver Christian Tober that dropped perfectly over a member of the Jaguars secondary and hit Tober in stride on his way into the end zone.

Wilson (6-6, 215) also displayed fluid agility and mobility in and out of the pocket, while surviving a couple of big hits from the Jaguars defense to deliver passes where his receivers and running backs could make plays.

New San Clemente coach uses change as motivation (video)

August 24th, 2011, 8:16 pm by

Shock waves were sent across San Clemente when football coach Eric Patton was replaced last week after 11 years as the Tritons’ coach.

The interim coach, Jon Hamro, who is also the school’s athletic director, has seized control of the team less than two weeks before the start of the 2011 season.

San Clemente features the No. 1-ranked QB in the county, Travis Wilson, and returning 2010 All-County offensive lineman Kyle Murphy.

Will the coaching change become a distraction for the talented Tritons?

San Clemente senior-to-be left tackle Kyle Murphy has been ranked as the No. 1 offensive lineman in the nation by Laguna Beach-based SuperPrep in its 2011 preseason issue.

Here is a sample of what SuperPrep said about Murphy – who also is ranked No. 1 in OCVarsity.com’s current Top 25 and also uncommited:

“He’s an NFL guy-in-waiting and could fit in a college program now if he suddenly walked on campus.”

Not good news for San Clemente’s opponents in 2011.

Here are other players from Orange County who landed in the Far West rankings (Murphy was only O.C. player in the SuperPrep Pre-Season 50)
