Sean Sullens today was named varsity head coach at Trabuco Hills. Sullens, a Trabuco Hills alumnus, has been an assistant coach at Mission Viejo the past nine seasons. He is an English teacher at Trabuco Hills.
The Trabuco Hills vacancy was created when Tom McCluskey resigned the position early this season over a dispute about an email that was sent to Trabuco Hills team parents about helping fund the program. Junior varsity coach Robert Lee filled in.
Trabuco Hills finished 13-13 overall and in third place in the Sea View League. They Mustangs lost to Warrent of Downey in the first round of the CIF-SS 1AA playoffs.
More boys basketball news from the OCVarsity blog:

Mission Viejo has hired former Register coach of the year Andy Garcia of Trabuco Hills as its boys swim coach.
Garcia coached the boys swim team at Trabuco Hills for 14 years but is now teaching science and coaching at Mission Viejo.
Garcia said he was intrigued by the opportunity to coach the Diablos but also has two daughters, ages 8 and 11, who will be attending Mission Viejo in the future.
The No. 2 ranked Trabuco Hills’ boys cross country team shook off the disappointment of finishing second at last week’s Orange County Championships by winning the team title at the 2012 Kit Carson Invitational Friday at Kit Carson Park in Escondido.
Senior Naoki Omatsu was the individual winner in the large schools division, crossing the finish line of the 3.04 mile race in a time of 15:44.
Fellow Mustangs seniors Lucas Dorman (16:01), Max Moncur (16:07), Brendan McCabe (16:27), and Chris Ceja (16:47) all finished among the top 15 to help Trabuco Hills (34 points) defeat second place Mt. Carmel High (59) and third place Sweetwater High (93).
Woodbridge (120) finished fifth in the large schools division. The Warriors were lead by junior Jackson Marshall, who finished seventh overall in a time of 16:21.

These OCVarsity Pickapalooza Deathmatches are turning into my personal Vietnam. I’ve taken three consecutive brutal beatdowns in a row, but last week’s was the worse because it came against my arch nemesis Damian Calhoun of OCVarsity’s Calhoun Countdown.
The defeat cost me my Diego “The Nightmare”Sanchez UFC action figure. It was a terrible loss to The Los Art and Memorabilia Collection. The defeat sent me to a dark place. Beaten and battered, I was on the verge of retiring from OCVarsity Pickapalooza Deathmatches.
But then I got a call from Apollo Creed, an old OCVarsity Pickapalooza Deathmatch opponent from my past. We had battled to a draw and then I beat him in the rematch. It was an epic OCVarsity Pickapalooza Deathmatch series.
Apollo Creed: “Now, when we fought, you had that eye of the tiger, man; the edge! And now you gotta get it back, and the way to get it back is to go back to the beginning. You know what I mean”
Yeah, we had to take it back to the beginning, but I still wasn’t completely on board and it showed during one of our early OCVarsity Pickapalooza Deathmatch sparring sessions.
Apollo Creed: “He’s hooking. He’s hooking. He’s hooking! Damn, Los, Come on! What’s the matter with you?”
Me: “Tomorrow. Let’s do it tomorrow.”
Apollo Creed: “(Screaming) There is no tomorrow! THERE IS NO TOMORROW! THERE IS NO TOMORROW!”
Apollo Creed was right. “THERE IS NO TOMORROW!!!” Flash to my OCVarsity Pickapalloza Deathmatch training montage.
No. 17 TRABUCO HILLS (1-0) VS. No. 13 NEWPORT HARBOR (0-0)
Where, when: Newport Harbor High, Thursday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: Trabuco Hills last week beat Dana Hills, the team Sea View League coaches tabbed to be the league favorite, 17-14. The Mustangs had to hang on at the end to secure the victory. They were able to compile some much-needed first downs to eat up the clock in the final minutes. That’s a good sign for Trabuco football this year.
