Here is a look at this week's Top 10 and my explanations for the picks:

1. Esperanza (6-0-0): The Aztecs have come out of the gate strong, allowing only three goals and defeating quality squads from El Toro and Los Alamitos.

2. Aliso Niguel (6-0-1): The Wolverines have shown the ability to win close games, winning four of their six games by one goal.

3. San Clemente (6-1-0): Despite a tough 1-0 loss to Newport Harbor, the Tritons appear to be one of the best defensive teams in the county, allowing only three goals in seven games.

4. Mater Dei (4-0-3): After three ties in their first four games, the Monarchs have won three in a row, outscoring their opponents, 8-1.

5. Los Alamitos (3-1-1): The Griffins are still trying to find their identity without sophomore standout Shanelle Simien, but are still one of the county's best teams and should be throughout the season.

6. El Toro (4-1-1): The Chargers have stormed out of the gate with four wins in their first six games. They have been led by senior Bri Lopez (six goals).

7. Canyon (7-0-0): The Comanches have dominated their first seven opppnents, outscoring them, 17-3, and posting six shutouts. The Mater Dei Premier Invitational will be their chance to shine against some of the county's elite.

8. Tesoro (1-0-3): Despite three ties in their first four games, the Titans will have a chance to build some momentum with the Mater Dei Premier Invitational on the horizon.

9. Mission Viejo (3-1-2): After a subpar 2007-2008, the Diablos appear to have rebounded, with impressive wins over Trabuco Hills and Santa Margarita.

10. Woodbridge (7-1-1): With six shoutouts in their first nine games, the Warriors could be a team to keep an eye on throughout this season.
