Baseball playoffs: Friday’s quarterfinal matchups

Coin flips this morning have been completed where needed to identify home teams for the CIF-SS playoff quarterfinals that are Friday.

Orange County’s coin-flip winner: Santa Margarita. Orange County’s coin-flip losers: Crean Lutheran; Capistrano Valley Christian.

Sonora 1B Wilkinson to NW Missouri State

Sonora senior first baseman Luke Wilkinson signed a letter of intent with Northwest Missouri State.

Wilkinson is batting .308 with 15 RBIs and three doubles for the Raiders, who clinched the Freeway League championship.

Football recruiting: Sonora lineman signs with NAIA school

Sonora offensive lineman Dustin Sanford (6-3, 265) signed earlier this month with NAIA Southern Oregon, Raiders football coach Paul Chiotti reports.

Sanford was a three-time All-Freeway League pick and Sonora’s 2012 MVP.

Southern Oregon went 9-3 and reached the NAIA playoffs last season.

Note: Mater Dei has been No. 1 in the final rankings every season since 1988-89, when Saddleback finished at No. 1.

3. JSerra (15-8, Triniity 3rd)

Sonora dominates Troy (video)

The Raiders had their revenge.

After losing to Troy twice last season, Sonora routed the Warriors 80-33.

Jimmy Golden led all scorers with 29 points.

I have one of the five votes for the Orange County boys basketball top 10.

This is how I voted today …

1. Mater Dei (18-0 overall, 4-0 league)

2. Orange Lutheran (15-3, 2-2)

3. El Toro (16-4, 2-0 … was No. 9 last week, beat Tesoro and Mission Viejo)

4. Mission Viejo (16-2, 1-1)

5. JSerra (11-4, 2-2 … I think OLu will beat JSerra this week)

6.  Tustin (17-2, 4-0)

7. Tesoro (15-4, 0-1)

8. Sonora (17-2, 3-0 … big game at home vs. Troy on Wednesday)

9. Villa Park (15-4, 5-0)

10. Foothill (15-2, 4-1 … plenty of time for Foothill to move up, once roster gets healthy)

1. Mater Dei 14-0 record … I evaluated layers of information, and decided to go ahead and vote MD at Numero Uno. Monarchs won Dick’s Sporting Goods Orange Holiday Classic, beat Canyon in semi and Tustin in final.

2. Mission Viejo 15-1 … went 3-1 in a MaxPreps Holiday Classic division

3. Orange Lutheran 13-1 … went 3-1 in its MaxPreps Holiday division

4. Jserra 9-2 … went 3-0 in a Jesuit Classic tournament in the Midwest or some place similar

5. Foothill 14-1 … won its division of the Estancia Coast Classic, def. San Clemente and Newport Harbor

6. Tustin 13-2 … def. Village Christian, lost to MD in Orange Holiday Classic final

7. Tesoro 13-3 … went 3-1 in Cathedral Catholic tournament

8. Sonora 15-2 … def. Fall brook, San Dieguito Academy in SD tournament
