I did a live blog from the Pacifica vs. Santiago of Corona CIF-SS Division 1 quarterfinal on Thursday at Santiago High. Here’s how it all went down:

IT’S TIME TO PLAY THE GAME!!!!

Pacifica has invaded the Inland Empire to take on Lord Vader, aka Santiago of Corona coach John Perez, and his mighty Sharks.

Pacifica is ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 2 in the nation and Santiago is the defending Division 1 champs. The winner of this epic encounter plays the Edison-Orange Lutheran winner in the semifinals on Tuesday.

No messing around. IT’S TIME TO PLAY THE GAME!!!!!

Erica Romero is starting in the circle for The Empire.

Romero gets Florida-bound Nicole DeWitt on a called third strike. One down.

This place is packed. The entire Santiago football team  has filled up the stands down the left-field line.

Illinois-bound Ruby Rivera strokes a single through the left side of the infield.

Oklahoma State-bound Erika Campbell goes down swinging. Two down.

Ohio State-bound Rebecca Lee singles up the middle and Rivera puts the pressure on Santiago’s defense by taking third on the play. Lee takes second on the throw to third.

Hawaii, Manoa-bound Kristina Akiona with a chopper in front of the plate. The catcher fields it and makes a good throw to first … D’Oh!!! E-3!!!!! Brth runners come in to score and the Mariners have a 2-0 lead.

Faith Canfield grounds out to end the inning.

Freshman Kaley Winegarner gets the start in the circle for Pacifica.

Winegarner gives up a one-out walk to Nicole Orozco. Lord Vader’s Imperial troops will not go quietly. Still plenty of ballgame to play.
