Update: this post has been updated twice already this morning because apparently I left my brain at the Foothill-El Toro water polo match last pm. Some might argue it's not much of a loss for me.
JSerra's boys water polo team this morning won a coin-flip for SECOND place in the Trinity League, leaving Santa Margarita and Servite to play for third place. That match will be played Friday at SERVITE at 4 p.m.
The Eagles forced the three-way tie by upsetting No. 8 JSerra on Wednesday. But by winning the coin-flip, the Lions helped minimize the damage.
St. Margaret's running back John Murayama is listed at 5-foot-3, 135 pounds. Not exactly prototypical size but he put some giant numbers on Thursday. In fact, he almost broke a pretty giant Orange County record.
St. Margaret's coach Harry Welch picked up his 200th career victory Saturday and the Tartans appear on their way to another CIF title.
The visiting Tartans are leading Western Christian of Covina, 51-7, late in the fourth quarter Saturday afternoon.
In the game, St. Margaret's football coach Harry Welch is vying for his 200th career coaching victory. Welch is 20-0 in 1 1/2 seasons at St. Margaret's.
He earned the majority of his victories as the longtime coach at Canyon of Canyon Country.
In his 20th overall season, Welch's career record is an impressive 199-48-2 going into today's game.
SANTA ANA An Orange County Superior Court Judge late Wednesday morning denied Corona del Mar water polo player Martin Babovic's appeal for varsity eligibility.
Babovic, a foreign exchange student from Serbia, has been cleared by the Southern Section to play junior varsity but was seeking to play varsity.
As it was late in Tuesday's session, the definition of enrollment loomed large in the decision by Judge Steven L. Perk.

ANAHEIM - The JSerra football team created opportunities on defense and capitalized on good field position in a 35-2 victory over Katella in a nonleague game played Friday at Glover Stadium.
The Lions (5-0) will head into Trinity League play next week with an unblemished record against nonleague opponents.
Two-time first-team All-County girls water polo player Annika Dries of Laguna Beach has committed to Stanford, Breakers coach Ethan Damato said in e-mail Friday morning.
Dries is arguably the best field player in Orange County and certainly is a player to watch in the USA Water Polo pipeline.
A natural center, she has great size, speed and power.
Stanford got an absolutely gem who will be a force on the collegiate level.
In other recruiting news, Laguna Beach senior goalie Sarah Zuziak has committed to UC Santa Barbara. The Breakers have two other recruits to watch, so yes, they'll again be a team to watch.
Mater Dei used its speedy counterattack and strong defense to rally past Servite, 8-5, in the Trinity League opener for school.
Junior Alex Wherry and senior Nathan Caulum each finished with three goals.

Orange County football fans should now be well aware of Mission Viejo quarterback Allan Bridgford. But, did you know that his kid brother, Alex, is a 6-foot-2 freshman quarterback at Mission Viejo. Alex tossed six touchdowns last week against Murrieta Valley, his father, Richard Bridgford, said earlier this week. So if the rest of the South Coast League was counting the days until Allan graduated, they might not get much of a break from the Bridgfords.
Corona del Mar senior water polo goalie Martin Babovic, a foreign exchange student from Serbia, has filed a temporary restraining order against the CIF-Southern Section in an effort to gain his varsity eligibility, Thom Simmons, director of communications for the Southern Section, confirmed late Monday night.
The touted Babovic has been restricted from varsity competition because of concerns that he was not randomly placed at Corona del Mar. The Southern Section's Web site lists Babovic as a direct placement.
Stay tuned to the water polo blog Tuesday for the latest update on this story.
