Fryer on football: St. Margaret’s vs. Whittier Christian

ST. MARGARET’S (1-1) VS. WHITTIER CHRISTIAN (1-2)
Where, when:
Whittier College, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: It’s a matchup of the two best small schools teams in Orange County football. St. Margaret’s lost to Coronado two weeks ago, then rolled to a 44-0 victory over a Washington state team, Orcas Island (where bodysurfing must be as risky as it is at the Wedge, just a different form of risk). JSerra suspends JV football for 2011

JSerra will not field a junior varsity football team this season, JSerra coach Jim Hartigan said Wednesday.

Hartigan said the number of football-playing sophomores and juniors is not high, and many of the players in those classes are on varsity.

Hartigan said he does not want to see too many players have to go both ways in a JV game and does not want to have players participating in a full JV game one day and then a varsity game the next.

Football recruiting: JSerra’s Williams adds Pac-12 offer

JSerra wide receiver/defensive back Jonavaughn Williams (6-0, 195) has picked up another scholarship offer from his collegiate conference of choice.

The senior reports that Arizona has offered.

Williams already has offers from Washington, Colorado, Oregon State and Arizona State among others.

He is coming off a strong showing at the Edison passing tournament earlier this month.

Talented JSerra wide receiver/defensive back Jonavaughn Williams (6-0, 192) has picked up scholarship offers from Oregon State and Colorado, the junior reports.

Williams also has recently landed an offer from Northern Arizona.

His list of Pac-12 offer also includes Arizona State and Washington.

Williams also holds offers from Duke and San Diego State.

Baseball: JSerra’s Boras taken by Milwaukee

JSerra third baseman Trent Boras was selected by the Miwaukee Brewers in the 30th round No., 911) overall.

Boras is signed with USC and is the second JSerra player to be selected today. Austin Hedges went earlier to the San Diego Padres.

That’s it for the second day. The draft will resume Wednesday at 9 a.m.

JSerra defensive back/wide receiver Jonavaughn Williams (6-0,192) has picked up scholarship offers from Arizona State and Duke, the junior reports.

The athletic Williams also has offers from Washington and San Diego State.

Williams and his teammate, quarterback Jake Hall, also are attracting interest from Arizona, Boise State and SMU.

JSerra senior infielder Grant Davis has committed to Arizona State, coach Brett Kay said.

Davis is hitting .365 with 14 RBIs, 12 stolen bases and 24 runs scored.
