Following tradition, the county football Top 10 polling concludes at the end of the regular season.

Here is how I voted on the top 10 -- and this is just my vote.

Many people think the final top 10 is mine, but it is a poll of 10 voters.

Fryer's Final Top 10

1. Edison -- and deservedly so.

2. Mission Viejo -- and Mission might be the best team in the county. But Edison beat then-No. 1 Servite, and also beat Dana Hills, Fountain Valley and Los Alamitos. And Newport, too.

3. Servite -- 5-0 in the Trinity is pretty darned good.

4. Los Alamitos -- Excellent defense, Nick Richardson could carry it 50 times and still look ready for more.

5. Dana Hills -- Simply beat by a much better team in that loss to Mission.

6. Fountain Valley -- Had a fourth-quarter lead on Los Al.

7. Orange Lutheran -- Key players hobbling.

8. La Habra -- One-sided victory over Fullerton not a surprise.

9. Mater Dei -- Won an important game over Bosco, and by a lot, too.

10. Tustin -- Poised for another deep run in the playoffs.

(Seen Servite twice; vs. Edison and vs. Long Beach Poly ... fairly big games)

The O.C. top 10 is not based upon Fryer's opinions solely. If you notice, it is a "poll of OC media members" and there are 10 of these media members, all of whom see a good variety of games.

That list of teams I have seen is a fairly good mix of county football, through Week 3. It will be a much deeper and wider group of teams come playoff time.

I would like to be at more than one game at a time, but it's difficult to do that.

I also vote on CIF-SS football polls, only in divisions in which we have OC teams. In the CIF polls, we have people who have not seen any teams in the Southwest Division voting on the Southwest rankings.

(corrected comment for Newport Harbor) - Sept. 28, 2009, 1:22 p.m.

1. Edison - no doubt

2. Servite - Gotta respect the schedule - and especially that Crespi win (state power St. Bony narrowly beat Crespi in OT thriller)

3. Mission Viejo - I'm just not sold on Diablos - yet

4. Mater Dei - Shaky vs. LA Jordan - Esperanza crushed Jordan

5. Los Al - You say the Griffins haven't played anyone? Shutout victim #1 Mayfair was within in a score of Lakewood early in 4th

6. Fountain Valley - Barons looking good

7. Orange Lutheran - REV is really good. Lancers weren't at full-strength but were still close

8. La Habra - Big one vs. LosAl on Thursday Gahr

9. Newport Harbor - Big one Friday vs. Dana Hills, which is coming off a bye

10. Dana Hills - Dolphins game vs. Edison looks pretty good now, huh? Santa Margarita and El Toro wins also very solid. Esperanza appears headed in right direction but I want to see a little more from Aztecs. Tustin bounced back but I also need to see more. San Clemente gets the hook after losing to a one-loss Santa Fe team.

others:

11. Esperanza

12. Tustin

13. San Clemente

14. Tesoro

15. Trabuco Hills

16. Cypress

17. El Dorado

18. Santa Margarita

19. El Toro

20. Fullerton

No matter. Here's the scoop on the action as it's warming up.

Campbell Hall the new No. 1 team in Division I?

That's the question after Campbell Hall defeated Corona del Mar, 10-8, last week, and Palos Verde, 12-6, Wednesday. CdM is ranked No. 2 in the county and reached last year's finals. PV lost in the semifinals and was considered the division's top team until losing to Campbell Hall.

The only team left to challenge Campbell Hall's superiority is OC's No. 1 team Dana Hills.

The teams just happen to meet Wednesday at Valley College in Van Nuys. Can everyone say preview of Division I final? Let's hope so.

Here's how I would rank the top 5 teams in Division I so far:

1. Dana Hills: champs need to be beaten before giving up No. 1 spot

2. Campbell Hall

3. Corona del Mar

4. Palos Verdes

5. Peninsula

Here's what I submitted for this week's poll:

1. Servite: Not much needs to be said about their position. Will it change after this week's showdown?

2. Edison: Chargers remain in second in my voting, and have a chance to become the No. 1 team with a victory this week.

3. Mission Viejo: I will be surprised if Diablos fall out of top 3 all season.

4. Orange Lutheran: Lancers were back in action, and clearly among the county's best.

5. Fountain Valley: Some may think I have the Barons too high. Maybe I do. Sunset League play will sort out where they really belong.

6. Los Alamitos: It is tough to get a read on how good Los Al is so far. Again, Sunset League play will provide many answers.

7. San Clemente: Tritons remain at the same spot as last week. They have a big one for the top 10 rankings in two weeks with La Habra.

8. Mater Dei: Monarchs played better than a No. 8 team in the county against Centennial. I just can't leapfrog Mater Dei over teams that didn't lose, plus I would like to see consistency with this squad.

9. La Habra: Highlanders have a couple big games ahead. Win those, move up in the rankings. Fairly simple.

10. Newport Harbor: The Sailors make their debut in my poll with Tustin's loss. Newport turned in a nice win over Loyola.

Here's what I came up with:

1. Servite: Until the Friars lose, they are going to own the top spot. After watching Servite on Friday, it's hard to imagine a more physical group in the county.

2. Edison: Saw the Chargers on Thursday night. Want an early prediction? Edison is going to beat Servite. Chargers appeared to be a little more balanced overall.

3. Mission Viejo: Haven't seen the Diablos yet, but from everything I've heard and read, they are among the top 3 teams in the county without question.

4. Orange Lutheran: Will be nice to see the Lancers pick up again. We'll get a better idea where they actually belong.

5. Fountain Valley: Barons jump ahead idle San Clemente. Fountain Valley is looking like a solid unit.

6. Los Alamitos: Griffins also move ahead idle San Clemente with their impressive opening performance.

7. San Clemente: Tritons had a nice road win in Week 0. SC gets a good test with Trabuco Hills this week.

8. Mater Dei: It's hard to drop a team from the top 10 in victory, but Monarchs made that a hard and long decision.

9. Tustin: Not sure how Tillers would fair against an offensive team, but with Wilkerson leading the charge, Tustin can score.

10. La Habra: Highlanders receive my vote for the top 10 for the first time this season. I was thinking of putting Esperanza back in, but I need to see consistency from the Aztecs for that to happen. La Habra and San Clemente meet again this season, so that will help sort the poll out some when it happens.
