September 28th, 2009, 9:58 am by DAN ALBANO, ocvarsity.com

zumwaltblog250OK, it was another challenging but fun exercise to come up with a top-10 vote in Orange County football.

Forget about the debate over No. 1. Who's No. 2? And how about this race for No. 10 - Dana Hills, Esperanza, San Clemente and Tustin.

Button your chin-strap this week.

Who should be No. 1 in O.C. football?

September 27th, 2009, 12:20 am by TODD HARMONSON, OCREGISTER.COM

football_blog7With top-ranked Servite's loss to No. 3 Edison on Friday, the Top 10 for Orange County football almost certainly will get a major shake-up when the new rankings are revealed Monday.

Who do you think should get the No. 1 spot? Should No. 2 Mission Viejo move up to No. 1? Should Edison grab it? Or is there another team that deserves consideration?

Boys Division IA county outlook, players to watch

February 15th, 2009, 5:35 pm by STEVE FRYER, ocvarsity.com

COUNTY OUTLOOK

Capistrano Valley: The Cougars were expected to challenge for the South Coast League championship, but instead they finished third. They could be playing their best at this time of the season, though.

Esperanza: The Aztecs are 9-18, and play top-seeded Murrieta Valley in the first round.

El Toro: Donavan Jackson is the best player of a team that is not too athletic, but the Chargers play good enough to win a lot. This is an strong defensive team, too.

Mission Viejo: The Diablos finished last in a good league, the South Coast, and they lost plenty of close games to tough teams.

Tesoro: Chris Manresa, a strong 6-8 senior, is a difficult matchup for any team.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Dylan Bohanan, Murrieta Valley, 6-6, Sr., F, 16 ppg

Ben Hayes, Mission Viejo, 6-4, Jr., G, 18 ppg

Donavan Jackson, El Toro,6-4, Jr., G, 16 ppg

Casey James, Capistrano Valley. 6-3, Jr., G, 15 ppg

Bryce Lenhart, Murrieta Valley, 6-5, Sr., F, 19 ppg

Chris Manresa, Tesoro, 6-8, Sr., F, 15 ppg

Byron Wesley, Cajon, 6-4, So., G, 18 ppg

Gelaun Wheelwright, Centennial of Corona, 6-0, So., G, 18 ppg

Speak up now with your votes and, more important, your comments. We've included 10 of the top 11 teams from the preseason rankings (No. 10 Santa Margarita is the only top 10 team to lose, so it didn't make the choices).
