I don’t no if we can conclusively rule out that El Toro quarterback Conner Manning isn’t a cyborg sent back from the future to wreak havoc on OC Football after his performance in El Toro’s 47-24 season-0pening victory over Huntington Beach on Thursday night at Trabuco Hills High.
Manning, the county’s single season passing yardage and touchdown record holder, completed 44 of 66 passes for 454 yards and six touchdowns. The one stat that gives evidence that he might be human is the one fourth-quarter interception he threw late in the fourth quarter deep in HB territory. But that might have just been a clever ruse to throw that pesky Terminator-hunting John Connor.
Manning completed four or more passes to six different receivers as he led the Chargers no-huddle offense on a huge night. And that was just the season opener in Zero Week. I can’t wait to see what El Toro’s offense looks like when it hits the South Coast league.
“I felt so rusty, but I think our offense still played really well,” Manning told Mr. FryDay Night after the game.
