Football video: Akeelie Muhammad scores 5 TD vs. Pacifica

Cypress defeated Pacifica, 33-20, on Thursday night to earned at least a share of the Empire League title. Running back Akeelie Muhammad scored five touchdowns while rushing for 247 yards. Baseball video: Pacifica defeats Bellflower

Baseball playoffs: Gerritse pitches Pacifica to victory

baseball_iconGARDEN GROVE -- Brett Gerritse acknowledged being a bit nervous at the outset of Thursday’s CIF-SS Division II playoff game for Pacifica.

Gerritse, who was making his first playoff start, quickly found himself trailing visiting Bellflower after the first two innings.

Things quickly changed in the third inning for him and his teammates.

Baseball: Finally! Pacifica wins a league title

baseball_iconKeith Myrwold and Brett Gerritse combined to pitch a five-hit shutout leading Pacifica to a 5-0 victory over host Cypress Tuesday afternoon.

The victory gives Pacifica (19-7, 11-3) its  first league title in 27 years.

Football: Pacifica still looking for a coach

football_iconThere still is no football head coach at Pacifica, more than three months after Guy Gardner resigned the position to become head coach of the football team at Palos Verdes High.

Defensive coordinator Wes Choate is running things at Pacifica now, and Gardner had mentioned Choate as a fine successor.

Some Pacifica football parents have communicated to me that they might not want Choate in charge.
