(13-0 overall, 4-0 and first place in the Pacific Coast League in 2008)

The Hawks had a great season in ’08, going undefeated to win the CIF-Southern Section Southern Division championship. They lost ’08 league MVP Robert Refsnyder, their quarterback, to graduation and plenty of other top players were seniors last year, too. Laguna Hills does bring back some good ones. Three returnees were All-CIF last year: receiver Ryan Ur; defensive end Michael McCullough; and safety Matt Martindale. This is the best team in its league, and maybe even good enough to win another CIF title.

18. Corona del Mar
(10-3 overall, 3-1 and 2nd place in Pacific Coast League in 2008)

The Sea Kings had one of their best seasons in years in ’08, when they advanced to the Southern Division semifinals. They bring back their two running backs, J.D. Abbott and Alex Swigert, from that team and both were defensive starters last season. Corona del Mar has to rebuild the offensive and defensive lines, but this looks like a program with momentum under Coach Jason Hitchens, who has a knack for rebuilding. CdM does not have a challenging nonleague schedule, except for the annual Battle of the Bay with Newport Harbor, but the Sea Kings do open the league part of the schedule against defending league and Southern Division champion Laguna Hills.
