San Clemente dominates Tesoro, advances to Pac-5 final (video)

In a battle of  South Coast League rivals, San Clemente defeated Tesoro, 51-16, in the Pac-5 Division semifinals Friday. Christian Tober scored three touchdowns for the Tritons.

Video: Servite wins back-to-back championships, defeating Mission Viejo

The Friars defeat the Diablos 41-27 for consecutive Pac-5 championships. Servite was led by Malik Felton and his four touchdowns. Mission Viejo managed only seven points in the 1st half, as Servite’s trademark defense came through.

Steve Fryer, Carlos Arias, and Jonathan Khamis (playing the role of Dan Albano) take their talents to Anaheim.

Fryer and Arias break down both teams while Khamis catches up with Servite players and head coach Troy Thomas.

This is a Pac-5 championship preview that you do not want to miss.

Football video: Servite survives scare; now awaits Mission Viejo

Thank you for fighting hard until the last whistle.

Thank you Vernon Adams for putting on an absolute show.

But most of all, thank you for giving us Mission Viejo vs. Servite next Saturday night!

The Diablos have been licking their chops ever since their 19-18 loss in last year’s Pac-5 semifinals.

One year to the day, the Friars advance to their second straight Pac-5 championship game, defeating Alemany, 28-21.

Video: Mater Dei answers critics with impressive win

Mater Dei can’t win a playoff game without Victor Blackwell. Mater Dei’s defense isn’t ready for tough Pac-5 play. There’s no way Mater Dei can score against Long Beach Poly.

Where all all the haters now?

When Monarchs wide receiver Victor Blackwell separated his shoulder last week against Santa Margarita, Mater Dei was a bunch of dead men walking. According to last week’s poll, 71% of voters thought Mater Dei couldn’t advance past the first round without Blackwell. The remaining 29% who believed it to be possible, were proved to be correct.

Prior to facing Mater Dei, Long Beach Poly had held their previous six opponents to only eight points per game. That all changed Friday night, as the Monarchs advanced to the second round by defeating the Jackrabbits, 26-10.

Mater Dei used Poly’s tried-and-true method against them: ground, pound and defend.

Frankly Fryer: Game of the week

GAME OF THE WEEK

NO. 3 EDISON (3-0) VS. NO. 1 SERVITE (3-0)

Where, when: Cerritos College, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: These two played each other twice last year, with Edison winning in a regular-season game and Servite winning in the CIF-Southern Section Pac-5 Division championship game on a very wet field at Angel Stadium.
