Orange Lutheran has big list, but a name is missing

February 1st, 2012, 6:43 am by

Orange Lutheran sent over a list of 13 athletes who were making their college decisions official last night, but there was a pretty glaring omission from the list.

Lancers tight end Christo Kourtzidis, the No. 7 recruit in Orange County and a Florida State commit, was not on the list. We’ll be checking into his situation to see if he still is firm in his commitment to the Seminoles or if something has changed there.

Orange Lutheran had eight football players announce their decisions: Deion Williams (Duke), Darien Washington (Washington), Jabari Wilson (Eastern Washington), Grant Gunnison (MIT), Jordan Greenwood (Dartmouth), Elisha Davis (Humboldt State), Jordan Briggs (Georgetown) and Preston Kelly (Connecticut).

The Lancers also have Alyssa Schlom signing for track and field with UC Santa Barbara and four girls soccer players making their decisions official: Miranda Valdez (New Mexico State), Kristen Bailey-Yoo (Utah Valley), Darian Podmajersky (Richmond) and Corey Tobin (UC Irvine).

Boys basketball: Gabe York sidelined following appendectomy

January 5th, 2012, 7:10 am by

Orange Lutheran’s boys basketball team kicked off Trinity League play Wednesday night without star guard Gabe York and will probably be without him for a couple of weeks.

Nordstrom said York’s doctors believe that York will be out 2-3 weeks and will likely miss the first round of league games.

Darien Williams led the Lancers with 23 points and 18 rebounds in a 64-47 victory over Servite on Wednesday. Payton Banks had 21 and 10.

Orange Lutheran will face Santa Margarita on Friday and Mater Dei next Wednesday.

Football: CIF denies Livingston appeal

November 17th, 2011, 3:21 pm by

The CIF State office denied the appeal of Clark Livingston, a senior quarterback who was trying to become athletically eligible for football at La Habra after transferring there from Orange Lutheran in late summer.

La Habra coach Frank Mazzotta confirmed the denial of the appeal.

Livingston’s football athletic eligibility at La Habra was denied by the CIF-Southern Section, and his appeal to the section was turned down, too. He then took his case to the CIF State office.

The section and state offices have not disclosed reasons for their decisions.

Livingston could be eligible to play other sports at La Habra.

Nick Catalano, senior outfielder at Esperanza, committed to Oregon according to Esperanza coach Mike Curran, who sure has sent a lot of Aztecs to college and pro ball. Catalano also is a fine football player, and has a 3.85 GPA.
