Football recruiting: Rising Orange Lutheran sophomore lands two offers

Orange Lutheran sophomore defensive end Keisean Lucier-South (6-6,  210) has been offered by Washington and Boise State, his father, Sean, reports.

Lucier-South started last season for the Lancers and earned second-team All-Trinity League honors.

Add him to the stellar list of juniors-to-be in the county: Servite wide receiver Equanimeous St.-Brown, Servite offensive lineman Clayton Johnston, Buena Park wide receiver/cornerback Jaylinn Hawkins, Mater Dei tight end Kyle Penniston and Servite quarterback Travis Waller.

This is how I, your pal Steve Fryer, voted on the Orange County baseball top 10 today. We have five media members vote on the top 10 every Monday through the end of the regular season.

1. Mater Dei (10-1 overall, 5-1 league … just won that national tournament in North Carolina)

2. Canyon (10-1, 5-1 … won three Century League games)

3. Fountain Valley (13-1, 5-0 … def. Marina and Campolindo)

4. Cypress (9-3, 2-0 … has that early-season sweep of El Toro)

5. El Toro (8-4, 4-0 … 1st place in tough South Coast League)

6. Orange Lutheran (8-4, 3-2 … idle last week)

7. Capistrano Valley (13-4, 2-2 … lost to Trabuco, def. Tesoro and a couple of Lions tournament wins)

8. San Clemente (12-3, 3-1 … def. Dana and Aliso)

9. Mission Viejo (11-5, 2-2 … def. Trabuco)

10. El Dorado (7-4, 5-1 … has won 6 of past 7; def. Esperanza twice, and Foothill … def. Canyon earlier)

How I voted on the Orange County top 10 today. I have one of the five votes that creates the county baseball top 10 …

1. Mater Dei (6-1 overall record, 5-0 league)

2. Canyon (7-1, 2-1)

3. Fountain Valley (9-1, 3-0)

4. Cypress (7-3, 0-0)

5. El Toro (7-4, 3-0)

6. Orange Lutheran (8-4, 3-2)

Track and Field: OLu boys, Dana girls win titles at ASICS Laguna Beach Trophy Invite

Orange Lutheran senior Cullan Riser won both the 110 hurdles and the 400.

The Orange Lutheran boys and the Dana Hills girls team claimed team titles at the 2013 ASICS Laguna Beach Trophy Invitational this past weekend at Laguna Beach High.

Orange Lutheran senior Cullan Riser was named sprint athlete of the meet, as he won the 110 hurdles with a meet record time of 15.29 and took first place in the 400 (50.74).

Junior Myles Hawkins was named field athlete of the meet with wins in the triple jump (45-9) and the long jump (21-8).

The Lancers also swept the pole vault, led by senior Kevin Stull’s new meet record clearance of 15-3.

Orange Lutheran (113 points) edged Corona del Mar (111.60) for the team title. Dana Hills (99), Trabuco Hills (62.5) and Servite (51.60) rounded out the top five teams.

Free football clinic at OLu

St. Louis Rams receiver Austin Pettis, left, is hosting a free football skills camp at Orange Lutheran on Saturday.

Two sessions: ages 8-13 from 10:30 a.m. to noon; ages 14-18 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Participants are required to bring their own cleats or other footwear that would be good for the camp. No pads or helmets required.

Pettis was an All-County receiver at Orange Lutheran, went on to be a standout receiver at Boise State and has been with the Rams the past two seasons.

Baseball: Fryer’s top 10 vote

The first top 10 vote of the season is difficult in any sport, but especially so for baseball. Teams beat better teams because the better team went with its No. 4 starting pitcher, or brought up a JV guy who won’t pitch in a varsity league game, etc.

But here it goes — first top 10 vote of this baseball season …

Mission Viejo earns ‘sweet revenge’ over Orange Lutheran (video)

The Diablos waited one whole year before they could avenge last season’s loss to the Lancers in the CIF title game.

Mission Viejo defeated Orange Lutheran 64-63 in a game that went down to the final shot.

Football recruiting: Orange Lutheran has five signees

Orange Lutheran’s Chase Dominguez signs a National Letter of Intent to play football for University of Utah.

At a ceremony early Wednesday morning, five Orange Lutheran football players signed.

The list includes: offensive lineman John Lopez signed with UCLA; lineman Colin Sutton with Colorado; long snapper Chase Dominguez signed with Utah.

Linebacker Gunnar Wolfe signed with Valparaiso and Shaun Pisani signed with Briar Cliff University of Iowa.
