I did live blog from the Orange Lutheran-Mater Dei Trinity League game on Friday at Thornton Park. Here’s how it all went down:
LIVE FROM THORNTON PARK
So things didn’t go as planned last night. I was unable to get out to the midnight screening for “Iron Man 3.” My group of friends that usually gets out to all the blockbusters bailed. Something about family, work, getting up early … blah, blah, blah … chumps. I will see “Iron Man 3″ and I WILL SEE IT IN IMAX 3D THIS WEEKEND!! THIS I VOW FOR IT IS MY DESTINY!!!!
But enough about my messed up plans. I have the Mobile OCVarsity Press Row set up at Thornton Park where Mater Dei and Orange Lutheran are set to do battle in a Trinity League game.
Mater Dei has been laying waste to all of its opposition during its 14-game winning streak. The Monarchs haven’t just been winning, they have been dishing out brutal beatdowns.
Oregon-bound Nikki Udira, Washington-commit Morganne Flores and Notre Dame-commit Melissa Rochford have been red hot for the Monarchs. And Virginia-commit Andie Formby has been back to form after missing her sophomore season with injuries. Formby has total command of her pitches and her change-up is nasty.
Orange Lutheran is coming off a 5-4 loss to Santa Margarita on Tuesday. The Lancers gave up five runs in the top of the sixth of that ugly loss, so they are looking to bounce back.
Orange Lutheran rising sophomore defensive end Keisean Lucier-South (6-6 210) was offered by Oregon earlier this morning, his father, Sean, reports.
The Ducks’ offer arrives on the heels of scholarship offers Friday from Oregon State and Miami.
Keisean Lucier-South list of offers: Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA and Washington from the Pac-12, along with Miami and Boise State.

Servite has zeroed in on its next football coach. The announcement could come today, maybe Thursday, definitely Friday at the latest.
There were 70 applicants. Paper screening and preliminary talks reduced the pool to four finalists — Servite dean of students and assistant football coach A.J. Gass (and a great player at Servite in the ’90s), and three out-of-area coaches including one from outside of California.
All four were abundantly qualified, or they would not have advanced to the final four.
The opening was created when Troy Thomas decided to return to coaching at Crespi of Encino, his alma mater and where he was coach before he took the Servite job in 2005.
The new coach has one heck of a schedule awaiting him. Here is the Servite football schedule for 2013 …
This is how I voted on the Orange County baseball top 10 today. It is a media poll of five media members.
1. Mater Dei (19-1 overall, 9-0 league)
2. El Toro (15-5, 7-0 … swept Mission Viejo last week)
3. Orange Lutheran (15-4, 6-2)
4. Fountain Valley (20-1, 9-0 … just a tad below El Toro, Orange Lutheran)
5. Canyon (15-4, 7-3 … lost to El Dorado, split w/Esperanza last week)
6. El Dorado (def. Canyon, split w/Villa Park)
7. San Clemente (19-5, 6-2 … was 2-2 last week; split w/San Juan Hills and with Great Oak of Temecula)7. San Clemente
8. Cypress (16-6, 4-2 .. split with Tustin)
9. Marina (13-7, 6-3 … 2nd in Sunset; def. Huntington Beach twice last week)
10. Mission Viejo (15-7-1, 4-3 … lost to El Toro twice)

I did a live blog from the Trinity League game between Orange Lutheran and Santa Margarita on Friday at Santa Margarita High. Here’s how it all went down:
LIVE FROM SANTA MARGARITA HIGH
I have the Mobile OCVarsity Press Row set up at Santa Margarita High for a Trinity League scrap between No. 6 Orange Lutheran (17-5, 1-0) and Santa Margarita (11-8, 0-1).
The Lancers are going with Illinois-bound Jade Vecvanags in the circle and The Eagles are throwing sophomore Jayme Cone. This is my first look at Cone.
The umpires are going over the particulars with the coaches. You know, the usual: “No biting, fish-hooking or punching below the belt. Go to your neutral corners and come out swinging when the bell sounds.” It was something like that.
I think Santa Margarita coach John Fitzpatrick’s finishing move is “The Flying Burrito” a la Tito Santana. Orange Lutheran coach Steve Miklos goes with the elbow from the top rope as his finishing move.
Fitz and Miklos might seem like to of the nicest guys in OC softball, but you should have seen them in the now-defunct OCSCPWL (Orange County Softball Coaches Pro Wrestling League). They were vicious.
Cone is very careful with Vecvanags and walks her to lead off the game. Vecvanags is also OLu’s best hitter.
Sabrina Alcantra executes a perfect sacrifice to move Vecvanags to second base.
San Diego-bound Olivia Sandusky rips a single up the middle and Vecvanags scores easily from second base.
Sandusky steals second base with two outs, and she takes third on a wild pitch.
