I'm going to do something different this week and I'm going with co-winners. That's right, I'm sharing the award between a pair of defensive units and their defensive coordinators.

My picks are ...

The Orange Lutheran defense and coordinator Thurmond Moore

The Lancers made life miserable for super junior quarterback Ryan Kasdorf in Friday's 24-14 victory. Kasdorf completed eight of 19 passes for 135 yards (season lows across the board). The Lancers made sure not to let the Knight receivers beat them. Orange Lutheran's corner back duo of Gabe Lemon and Davonte Anderson shut down the Notre Dame receivers, including shutting out James Flynn, who entered the game with 48 catches for 1,112 yards and 19 touchdowns.

The Tesoro defense and coordinator Matt Poston

Poston dialed up the pressure put on Mater Dei qb Matt Barkley, resulting in four first half interceptions. Two of those were returned for touchdowns by Preston King and Brett Gudim. Barkley was harassed into completing only 35 percent of his passes (12 of 34) his lowest total of the season. Tesoro avenged last year's 31-17 playoff loss with a 38-35 victory Friday night.

King had two interceptions.
