Boys water polo: Lynn earns first victory as Newport Harbor’s coach

September 10th, 2011, 3:17 pm by

Farrel South scored five first-half goals and goalie Koby Yokota added 11 saves as Newport Harbor first-year boys water polo coach Robert Lynn, left, picked up his first victory in a 14-3 decision at Foothill on Saturday.

In Lynn first match, the Sailors’ trademarks were obvious.

They made huge commitments to the counterattack, field blocking and the 6-on-5 and 5-on-6 units under the command of Lynn, an assistant with the U.S. national men’s team.

More info to come.

NEWPORT HARBOR (0-0) VS. TRABUCO HILLS (1-0)
Where, when:
Trabuco Hills High, Thursday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: It’s the season opener for Newport Harbor, where the question is “How much will the Sailors miss Buzzy Yokoyama?” Yokoyama was an All-Sunset League running back last year for Newport Harbor. He transferred to Mission Viejo. Newport Harbor seems to always have a standout running back, so perhaps the Sailors’ successful ground game is as much a result of the system and the offensive line play as it is the backfield talent. This game will have something to say about that. Read the rest of this entry »
