Just got off the phone with USC QB Matt Barkley's father, Les, who is the standard for what the father of a big-time athlete should be (rightfully proud, but humble and appreciative).
I usually go through the parents and/or coach before bugging our young people about something major, like the eminent move of Pete Carroll from USC to the Seattle Seahawks.

After four years, No. 5 is no longer under center for the Monarchs. Next in line is … who knows?
Well, I predicted back in spring Matt Barkley would win that competition.
But Aaron Corp's cracked fibula played a part.
Why I always thought Barkley would prevail:
El Dorado all-league quarterback and Hurriance Katrina survivor Kane Wilson has signed with Utah State, giving Orange County an amazing nine Division I-A or Diviison I-AA passers. Here's the list:
Mission Viejo quarterback Allan Bridgford has signed with Cal. Bridgford might not be as highly ranked by some recruiters as say Matt Barkley (USC), Richard Brehaut (UCLA) and Josh Nunes (Stanford) but don't be surprised if he turns out to be a better collegian than either Brehaut and/or Nunes.
