Pairings for the Ladycat Classic at Brea Olinda High from Dec. 1-6 were announced on Friday.
Here are the first-round matchups:
Marina coach/tournament director Butch Fredlow announced the 16-team field for the Larry Doyle O.C. Championships from Dec. 26-30 at Marina High and Edison High.
Here are the teams:
The Lancers had to survive one final kick return.
MD’s Dylan Price fielded the kick at MD’s 47 and pitched it back to Victor Blackwell. Blackwell almost got tackled on the far sideline, but was able to pitch it back to Jordan Allen.
Allen came all the way back across the field and had some running room. He got to OLu’s 40, before OLu’s Shawn Rohr made the game-ending tackle.
The Trinity League could end in a three-way tie between OLu, Mater Dei and Servite if Servite is able to knock off St. John Bosco on Friday night. If Servite loses to St. John Bosco, OLu will enter the playoffs as the No. 1 team from the Trinity League.
Mater Dei’s stud QB Matt Barkley isn’t going to come close to breaking the county’s career passing record tonight, which is held by Todd Marinovich, who is on the sidelines tonight.
But Barkley knows how to deliver the big play as he completed a 69-yarder to Victor Blackwell. It looked like Blackwell might go all the way, but Gabe Lemon made a TD-saving tackle.
That just delayed the inevitable. Jaron Hytche scored on a 4-yard TD run to tie it, 21-21, with 6:34 left.
Mater Dei’s defense came up with a big three-and-out to get the ball right back to the offense. Conrad Tavarez came up with a big sack to make it third-and-16.
El Dorado beat Tustin and Canyon beat Villa Park tonight to create a three-way tie for first place in the Century League.
The coaches met at the In n’ Out neat Canyon High for coin flips to determine playoff position and here’s how it went down:
The Lancers just put together an 11-play, 54-yard scoring drive to take a 21-14 lead with 7:33 left.
OLu went for it on fourth down for the fifth time this game and Kyle Dravis got a 4-yard gain to pick up a first down at MD’s 21.
Garrett Gilliland eventually scored on a 5-yard run to cap the drive.
OLu’s Brandon Turner is listed as a WR/DB on OLu’s roster, but this kid has an arm.
The Lancers went for a fake punt and Turner connected with Devonte Anderson for a 37-yard gain.
Mater Dei coach Bruce Rollinson was going crazy on the sidelines. Before Mater Dei could recover, the Lancers went for a double-pass play. Bobby Wheatley to Turner who unloaded a 43-yard TD pass to a wide open Exavier Edwards to tie it, 14-14, with 8:45 left in the third.
OLu had another chance to score, but Parker Flynn’s 51-yard FG fell short.
There is 1:07 left in the third.
Coaches from El Do, Tustin and Canyon will meet at the In N’ Out near Canyon High for a series of coin flips to determine first through third place in the Century League. D.C. will hit me up with the outcome in abbout 30 minutes.
El Do, Tustin and Canyon will share the league title, but playoff position is very important.
