Last year, there was a five-way tie for first with these teams at 3-2: Edison; Esperanza; Fountain Valley; Los Alamitos and Newport Harbor.
A series of coin flips took Edison and Newport Harbor out of the playoffs (and Newport Harbor had won its final three games, including victories over Esperanza and Los Alamitos, both of which made the playoffs via those coin flips).
NO. 7 LOS ALAMITOS (6-1, 1-1) VS. NO. 1 EDISON (7-0, 2-0)
Where, when: Huntington Beach High, Friday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: Los Alamitos has a new quarterback, Dylan Lagarde, a sophomore in-season transfer from Long Beach Poly, but that probably won’t make a difference in this game. Edison looks good enough to go 5-0 in the Sunset League, which would be quite an accomplishment, and just might be this year’s Pac-5 Division champion (with Mission Viejo right there with the Chargers, and don’t overlook Servite and Lakewood).
