OUTLOOK: The Chargers and Griffins are ranked first-second in Orange County, though El Toro leads the season series, 2-0. El Toro won the first match, 7-5, and the second in overtime, 9-8, even though not full strength. The Chargers also won both games despite getting only one goal from leading-scorer and U.S. junior star Griffin White (112 goals). Los Alamitos’ Austin Trinkle has scored a combined six goals in the two matches.

PREDICTION: The Chargers don't always seem to agree in the water but they have too much talent and coaching not to win this match.

Friday's match

Division I quarterfinals

Corona del Mar (18-9) vs. Los Alamitos (24-5) at Joint Forces Training Base, 7:15 p.m.

Prediction: This one has instant classic written all over it. The Sea Kings are playing their best ball of the season - as recent victims Mater Dei and Foothill can confirm. CdM has a game-changing lefty in Max Bergeson, plenty of other shooters and depth at center. But the Griffins have a shooter to counter Bergeson in Austin Trinkle. They also have depth at center, which is led by Forrest Watkins. But Los Al has the advantage with his defensive philosophy, which starts with the head coach and carries all the way to standout goalie Michael Delaney. While CdM was off the main radar in the early to midseason, LosAl was consistently better and wins a tough match to reach the semifinals against old nemesis El Toro.
