La Mirada finally defeats La Habra (video)

August 31st, 2012, 12:53 am by

After three consecutive years of losing to La Habra, La Mirada finally got one over on their neighborhood rival.

The Matadores scored on their first two plays of scrimmage, and tallied 28 points in the 1st quarter alone, on way to defeating the Highlanders 45-27.

Thursday Night Football Madness: The Postmortem

August 30th, 2012, 10:13 pm by

La Mirada took out three years of frustration on La Habra, piling up 525 yards of total offense in a 45-27 beatdown of La Habra. The Matadores snapped a three-game losing streak against the Highlanders.

La Habra played matadore defense against the Matadores all night. Former superstar linebacker Aaron Porter, who is now at UCLA, would not be pleased with the tackling by his former team.

La Mirada scored on its first four possessions. They needed just 11 plays to score those first four touchdowns. Highlanders coach Frank Mazzotta is going to be going over all the game film and kicking some serious butt in practice over the next week to turn this thing around.

There were some bright spots on offense for the Highlanders. QB Sean Sparling was 12 of 21 for 203 yards and one touchdown with one interception. He also scored on a rushing TD. Christian Casas had six receptions for 120 yards and a TD.

It doesn’t matter how good La Habra’s offense is if it can’t stop anybody.

The good news for OC football teams is they don’t have to worry about playing La Mirada’s high-powered offense this season. La Mirada doesn’t play any county opponents the rest of the way and there are no county teams in the Southeast Division where the Matadores are ranked No. 1.

Football Video: La Mirada takes title over heartbroken Garden Grove

December 12th, 2009, 3:22 am by

The Matadores win the Southern Division championship over Garden Grove 49-27.

The Argonauts were rolling until their quarterback Sean Young was injured early in the second quarter. He left the game and was later wheeled out on a stretcher with a rib injury. Being down on the sidelines, it was gut wrenching to see him fight away his tears. His team suffered in his absence, struggling to even pick up a first down.

Without Sean Young, La Mirada went on to score 42 consecutive points on the heels of Justin Torres and his three touchdowns.

However, my favorite part of the game came towards the end of the fourth quarter,  as Carlos Arias tumbled over a cheerleader block, trying to get out of the way of an oncoming player. He ruined his knees and nearly sent an innocent cheerleader to a brutal fall. Truly hilarious.
