O.C players among Connie Mack champs

The Southern California Renegades won the Connie Mack World Series on Saturday in Farmington, New Mexico.

Tim Robinson, who graduated this past spring from Ocean View and is headed for USC, was named tournament MVP. He was All-County first team this year. Other county players on the Renegades: Brett Barker (Aliso Niguel); Turner Clouse (Fountain Valley); Kyle Davis (Pacifica); David Fletcher (Cypress); Tyler Mahle (Westminster); and Art Vidrio (Orange Lutheran).

The Renegades defeated the Midland Redskins in the championship game.

Connie Mack baseball is for players who are 16 to 18 years old.

Baseball: Moore, Davis CIF players of the year

Ty Moore of Mater Dei and Kyle Davis of Pacifica were named CIF players of the year for their respective CIF-Southern Section divisions.

Moore was a Division 1 co-player of the year, with pitcher Luke Eubank of division champion Newbury Park. Moore also is Orange County player of the year for the second season in a row. Mater Dei was eliminated in the semifinals in the Division 1 playoffs.

Davis was solo player of the year in Division 2, for which Pacifica’s Mike Caira was coach of the year. Caira also is Orange County baseball coach of the year. Pacifica won the Division 2 championship.
