Girls water polo: Tournament tracker for Saturday

Here’s an update on the Falcon girls water polo tournament at Santa Ana Valley and the Western O.C. Shootout:

Saturday at the Falcon tournament:

Semifinals: Valley vs. Marina, 9 a.m.; JSerra vs. Buena Park, 10 a.m.

Finals at Valley: 1 p.m.

Saturday at the O.C. Shootout:

Quarterfinals at Kennedy: Ayala vs. Trabuco Hills, 8 a.m.; Redondo vs. Laguna Hills, 8:50 a.m.; Santa Monica vs. El Segundo, 9:40 a.m.; Vista Murrieta vs. La Salle, 10:30 a.m.

Finals at Kennedy: 4:20 p.m.

Boys soccer: Anaheim squanders scoring chances but still wins at Kennedy

To finish first a boys soccer team first must finish. Anaheim and host Kennedy both had a problem doing that on Wednesday, squandering numerous scoring chances in this nonleague game.

Football: Special night for Villa Park

Tonight at the Kennedy-Villa Park football game at El Modena High/Fred Kelly Stadium a collection will be taken for the family of Villa Park player Meki Tafuna.

Tafuna’s 3-year old sister was killed in a tragic accident on Wednesday.

If you are going to the game and can do so, bring some extra cash for this pass-the-hat style collection. Maybe you have some unused gift cars around your home.

Softball: Pacifica vs. Kennedy live blog remix

I went down to Kennedy High to do a live blog on the Pacifica-Kennedy game. Here’s how it all went down:

LIVE FROM KENNEDY HIGH

I have the mobile OCVarsity press row set up at Kennedy today for the Empire League game between Pacifica (17-2, 8-0) and Kennedy (14-7, 6-2).

The Mariners beat the Fighting Irish, 5-2, in the first round of league play. Another victory and Pacifica can lock up the league title.

Stay tuned for all the action.

Softball: Carlson is one tough freshman

I have been so impressed by all the young pitchers in the county. You have freshman Tera Blanco at Marina, freshman Andie Formby at Los Alamitos, sophomore Sammy Cordova of Edison and sophomore Candice Gustafson at Trabuco Hills. Add Pacifica freshman Kaylee Carlson to that group.

Carlson will have to face Kennedy’s 5, 6 and 7 hitters in the bottom of the seventh. Let’s see if she can nail down this game for the Mariners.
