No. 22 Fullerton (8-1, 4-0) vs. No. 8 La Habra (8-1, 4-0)
Friday, 7 p.m. at Fullerton District Stadium

Outlook: These two old acquaintances, Fullerton and La Habra, face off to decide the Freeway League title.

The Highlanders have won seven of the past nine Freeway League titles.

La Habra has outscored its first four league opponents, 182-31. Fullerton has outscored its opponents, 172-36.

Running back Joseph Hill has been the key to the Fullerton offense. He has rushed for 1,395 yards and scored 26 touchdowns. He has topped the 200-yard mark in four of his past six games.

La Habra welcomed Josh Quezada back to the lineup last week against Sunny Hills. Quezada missed the game against Troy because of the flu.

Sophomore Ahmad Avery rushed for 198 against the Warriors. Last week, the duo combined for 155 - Avery rushed for 80 and Quezada had 75.

La Habra quarterback Cody Clements had passed for 1,350 yards with 19 touchdowns and four interceptions.

The Highlanders have won the previous six meetings, including a pair of playoff games.

Will this game have a different result?

No. 4 Los Alamitos (3-0) vs. No. 8 La Habra (3-0)
Thursday, 7 p.m., at Gahr High

Outlook: The competition level goes up a level for both of these teams.

The Griffins haven’t allowed a point through their first three games, outscoring their opponents by a combined 124-0. (Yes, you read that right - 124 to zero.) However, those opponents are a combined 2-10.

La Habra’s opponents so far are a combined 5-5, and they have outscored them, 136-38.

The Griffins have pummeled their opponents on the ground. Running back Nick Richardson has rushed for 420 yards and seven touchdowns.

First-year starting quarterback Dylan Cook has completed 20 of 29 passes for 320 yards.

Everybody knows about the work of La Habra running back Josh Quezada. There also seems to be a good connection developing between quarterback Cody Clements and Brett Bartolone. Clements, a junior, has completed 26 of 38 passes for 557 yards.

Bartolone, a sophomore, has 12 catches for 320 yards and four touchdowns.

This is La Habra’s third opportunity to beat a Pac-5 opponent. They lost to both Los Alamitos and San Clemente last season. Is the third time a charm?

No. 10 La Habra (1-0) vs. South Hills of West Covina (1-0)
Thursday, 7 p.m., at La Habra High

Outlook: The Highlanders, the defending CIF Southwest champions, opened the season with a 54-13 victory over La Mirada. The competition should be tougher this week as South Hills visits.

The Huskies enter the week ranked second in the Southeast Division.

South Hills relied on its defense to defeat Ayala, 21-3 last week. They intercepted Ayala quarterback Ryan Orozco four times and limited the Bulldogs to 32 yards rushing.

It will take a lot to limit La Habra to just 32 yards rushing. La Habra running back Joshua Quezada rushed 189 yards in the opener last week against La Mirada.

First-year starting quarterback Cody Clements passed for four touchdowns. Brett Bartolone had three touchdowns for the Highlanders.

Chris Gonzales, Jake McBride and Mike Sparling also caught touchdown passes from Clements.

That’s a lot of firepower to contend with.

Will the Huskies be able to keep up?

La Habra's Josh Quezada wouldn't fall into that category. He was there to work. Period.

"I was trying to get as many reps as I could," he said. "I was trying to get into that zone. You didn't see me trying to talk with anyone."

Quezada said there were more running backs than other camps he has been to. He was aware of the competition around him, and did his best to rise above it.

"It's an invitational," he said. "It's the best of the best."

Coaches surely had to be impressed with his conditioning. While a few players appeared to be struggling with the unusually warm weather, Quezada said he was thriving off it.

"Personally, the workout of it was real good," he said. "It started off real hot, but I stayed hydrated. It started to get cooler as we went to one on one drills.

"The skills, the drills were a little different from some other combines. The one on one drills are the best part. They are the most competitive."

Quezada currently has offers from Fresno St., Hawaii and New Mexico St. He said he checks his email each day after school, and said he felt like he had a good day Sunday.

We'll see what the emails say.
