Video: No.1 Orange Lutheran goes down to red hot El Dorado

May 28th, 2010, 8:36 pm by

El Dorado takes down No.1 Orange Lutheran 2-1 on the arm of Kyle Twomey. The left-handed sophomore nearly threw a shut out before Nicko Burnett took him deep. The Hawks’ Drew Luther scored El Dorado’s only two runs after his two-run home run in the 1st inning.

El Dorado advances to play Dana Hills next Tuesday at Blair Field in the Division I semifinals.

And as an added bonus, you have to see El Dorado’s booster “Wild Bill” slide for home after the game. Can you say epic fail?

Video: Controversial walk ends Mater Dei’s season

May 25th, 2010, 10:43 pm by

After an intentional walk to load the bases in the 10th, Mater Dei’s Carly Wade walked in the game winning run. Esperanza’s Vanessa Weaver strolled to first as her Aztecs won 3-2. They advance to the quarterfinals to play Oxnard on Thursday.

But after the game, Mater Dei head coach Doug Myers gave the home plate umpire an ear full. He believed that Wade was squeezed at the plate.

“It’s a shame. I mean I’ll take any win,” said Esperanza head coach Ed Tunstall. “It shouldn’t happen like that. It seems like everytime we play Mater Dei, it comes down to one play to lose a game.”

Video: Mission Viejo and Dana Hills out web gem each other

May 13th, 2010, 10:04 pm by

Rarely will you ever see a player who robs another of a hit be robbed himself, but that’s what happened Thursday.

The Diablos second baseman Ryan “The Robber” Raslowsky dove and took a hit away from Trevor Scott. But Scott would rob Raslowsky in the very next inning!

Call it whatever you want…tit for tat, anything you can do I can do better, payback, whatever it was…it was awesome.

It was all a part of Mission Viejo defeating Dana Hills 6-2 to guarantee the Diablos a playoff berth. They will enter the first round as a three-seed. The Dolphins will hope for an at-large berth.

Video: Esperanza powers past undefeated Henry Owens

April 28th, 2010, 9:32 pm by

Esperanza hit two home runs and gave Edison pitcher Henry Owens his first loss of the season (8-1) in a 3-1 victory for the Aztecs on Wednesday. Esperanza’s Jonathan Maciel hit a solo shot, followed by a two-run bomb by Travis Alamazan.

Owens pitched a good game, going the distance with 11 strikeouts, but he struggled with his control. He uncharacteristically walked four batters and hit five.  He could have given up more runs, but Esperanza botched a suicide squeeze in the fifth inning.

Interviews with Esperanza’s winning pitcher, Austin Pettibone, and the two head coaches.
