Football: Two spots decided, one to be filled in Pacific Coast League

November 7th, 2011, 12:28 am by

Two of the spots for the CIF-SS Southern Division playoffs have been set from the Pacific Coast League.

Corona del Mar and Beckman, who will battle it out Friday for the PCL title at Newport Harbor, are in the playoffs. Both teams are 4-0 in league.

But there is still a possibility of a three-way tie for third, according to University Coach Mark Cunningham

Irvine (2-2, 4-5) could lock up the third spot with a victory over Woodbridge (1-3, 4-5)  Friday night at Irvine.

However, if University (1-3, 3-6) defeats Northwood (0-4, 2-7) Friday night and Woodbridge defeats Irvine, there would be a three-way tie for third and a coin flip to determine third, Cunningham said.

It appears that Woodbridge could still advance as an at-large team if it were to lose the coin flip since it would have a .500 record, which is required of at-large teams. Read the rest of this entry »
