GOLDEN WEST LEAGUE

LEAGUE FAVORITE: Ocean View. The Seahawks lost two All-Orange County first-team players, Anthony Brown and Avery Johnson, to graduation from last year’s undefeated league championship team that reached a CIF-Southern Section final, but they still look like the best team in the league. Football: Segerstrom looks to remain winning standard

August 27th, 2010, 11:22 am by

After four seasons of steadily building themselves into a league title contending team, the 2009 season finally saw the Segerstrom Jaguars become the Golden West League’s standard of success.

The Jaguars enjoyed the program’s most successful season in their brief history, ending Westminster 30-game league unbeaten streak, going a perfect 5-0 to win the team’s first league title, and winning the school’s first ever playoff game.

With preparation for the 2010 season underway, the Jaguars now find themselves in the pleasantly unfamiliar position of being the hunted rather than the hunters.

Football: Westminster attempts to regain the throne

August 27th, 2010, 11:21 am by

After five straight Golden West League titles and 30 consecutive unbeaten games within the league, the 2009 season finally saw the Westminster Lions unparalleled run of domination come to an end.

After finishing second to league champion Segerstrom, the Lions regrouped and exacted a measure of revenged against Irvine in the first round before a 64-21 loss to Norwalk ended their season.

Now with the 2010 season on the horizon, the Lions will look to reclaim their hold on a league they dominated for half a decade.

Football: Optimism fueling Orange’s quest in 2010

August 27th, 2010, 11:19 am by

For a program that has struggled in recent seasons, the onset of the 2010 season has brought with it a new air of optimism and a change in the culture for the Orange Panthers.

Despite the team’s third head coach in as many seasons, the Panthers appear to be a team potentially armed with enough talent to win more than three games for the first time since 2006, the last time the Panthers qualified for the CIF playoffs.

Football: Santa Ana looking to march farther this season

August 27th, 2010, 11:15 am by

On the heels of three straight CIF playoff berths, the Santa Ana Saints have certainly shown the ability to be one of the better teams in the Golden West League in recent years.
Yet as the 2010 season gets underway, the Saints will again prepare themselves to try and achieve something they haven’t done since they started play in the Golden West League in 1994.

Win a league title.
