Baseball: Calhoun’s games to watch this week

Lets take some time to welcome the South Coast League teams back to the field this week.

All six teams, and San Juan Hills, will have to make up games that were cancelled Friday because of the Capistrano Unified School District strike.

Those games will be played Saturday or Monday. So all of the teams are looking at having to play three league games in one week sometime soon.

How will it affect their pitching staffs?

Calhoun’s Games to Watch: St. Margaret’s vs. Ontario Christian

Saturday, 7:30 p.m. at Ontario Christian High

Outlook: I think it is time to institute a new rule for all East Valley Division games.

St. Margaret’s should be able to host all of its playoff games until somebody in the division defeats the Tartans. I think that is fair. I wouldn’t want colleague Jason Eichelberger to have to travel to Bishop again.

Calhoun’s Games to Watch: Edison vs. Servite

Saturday, 7:30 p.m. at Angel Stadium

Outlook: What a way to end the Pac-5 Division playoffs. Edison, the county’s top ranked team and the top-seed in the playoffs, defeated Lakewood, 37-29.

Servite has walked the tightrope in each of it previous two playoff games. In the second round, the Friars needed a blocked field goal by defensive back John Paul Onorato to preserve a 21-18 victory over Long Beach Poly.

Outlook: It is the Northwest Division game that everybody has been waiting.

Calhoun’s Games to Watch: Crenshaw vs. Narbonne

Outlook: The L.A. City title is on the line and, thankfully, things will not end in a tie like it did last year between San Pedro and Narbonne.

Trabuco Hills (11-1) vs. Tustin (11-1)
Friday, 7 p.m. at Tustin High

Outlook: The bottom half of the Southwest Division bracket brings the third-seeded Mustangs to Tustin to face the second-seeded Tillers.

Trabuco Hills, which lost in the Southwest Division semifinals last year, enters on a nine-game winning streak. Over the past four games, the Mustangs are averaging 48.2 points a game and are allowing 6.5 points.
