Football recruiting: Fullerton linebacker headed to San Jose State

March 30th, 2011, 12:43 pm by

Fullerton senior linbacker Simon Poti (6-2, 208) has committed to San Jose State as a preferred walk-on, his mother, May, confirmed.

Poti was a first-team All-Freeway League and All-CIF Southwest Division pick in the fall.

Poti took a recruiting trip to San Jose State in January. Servite linebacker Matt Inman was on the same trip, and of course, later committed to Nevada as a preferred walk-on.

Amazing game-winner leaves both teams in tears (video)

March 4th, 2011, 12:47 am by

Edison’s Bonnie Samuelson shocked Troy by stealing the inbounds pass and sinking the game-winning shot, giving the Chargers a 45-44 victory over Troy in the Division 1A championship game Thursday night.

But should that game-winner really have been a game-winner?

According to multiple scorebooks, Edison was mistakenly awarded a point in the first quarter. Troy had a lead of 8-7, but the scoreboard read as a tie, 8-8.

“I told them (official scorekeepers) if this comes down to one point, it will be ridiculous,” Troy coach Roger Anderson said. “And it came down to one point.”

Edison’s head coach Dan Wiley said he was never made aware of a possible scoring flub.

“I didn’t know anything about it,” Wiley said. “I was going by the score on the scoreboard.”
