What’s happening with OLu football?

February 8th, 2012, 12:12 pm by

Gregg Pinick, Orange Lutheran’s executive director, indicated today that the school is in the early stages of selecting a replacement for Jim Kunau, who has been reassigned at Orange Lutheran after 19 excellent years coaching the school’s football team.

Mr. Pinick said via email: “We are in the process of collecting information now to find the right coach for Orange Lutheran.  Obviously, we want to do that as soon as possible.  We have received many inquiries.”

I asked Mr. Pinick if there was truth to reports received here that Centennial of Corona coach Matt Logan and former Orange Lutheran assistant coach Brent Vieselmeyer, now coaching in Colorado, had made visits to Orange Lutheran in recent weeks. Mr. Pinick did not address that question.

We know that longtime assistant Mike Crawford is an applicant. As an OLu alum, too, he likely could have a good shot at the position.

Fullerton College coach Tim Byrnes said today he has expressed interest but has not formally applied. Community college coaching jobs are good ones — good pay, good benefits, good retirement package, etc.
