Steve Fryer will deliver his "FryDay Night" live updates from the Edison-Fountain Valley showdown in the Sunset League, and our reporters at every game will be providing constant updates.

We'll have live video from Mater Dei's huge game with St. John Bosco in the Trinity League (check back close to kickoff for the link to the video feed). And Carlos Arias will be joined by Register columnist Mark Whicker at La Habra High for the heated Fullerton-La Habra contest in the Freeway League.

For those who kept up with the "Instant Analysis" all night, you might remember I put this game in the fridge after MV scored on its opening drive of the second half to take a 35-10 lead over the Tritons.

What you don't realize is that was just an ode to the late Chick Hearn, and it was meant to motivate the Tritons to keep on going. Clearly some Triton fan out there read that post and text messaged somebody on the SC sideline and the Tritons accepted the challenge.

My master plan almost worked. Actually it did work because the MV defense must have heard about the reverse phsychology I was using on the Tritons and realized it was really double-reverse psychology for the Diablos.

You didn't think of that did you. I can be a mad genius.

The Diablos defense showed tremendous heart on that final series. SC had all the momentum, but MV cornerback Jake Staszak picked off Duke DeLancellotti on fourth down and ran out the clock with his return to preserve the victory for the Diablos.

This has turned into one of the best rivalries in the county.

MV has certainly locked up No. 2 in the South Coast League and SC will take No. 3 unless something crazy happens.

Both teams will be dangerous in the Pac-5 playoffs.

To all my OCVarsity homies out there, I got dibs on Mission Viejo vs. San Clemente in 2009. I called it first on Oct. 31, 2008.

BTW, MV vs. SC was the Cox3 "Game of the Week." It will be broadcast on Cox3 tonight at 11, Saturday at 2 p.m., Sunday at 8 p.m. and Tuesday at 8 p.m. This is must-see TV for high school football fans.

I will never put a game in the refrigerator for as long as I shall live. Foreva eva? foreva eva!!!

SC QB Duke DeLancellotti opens the fourth quarter with 40-yard pass play to Steve Brandenburg to the MV 37-yard line.

A pass interference penalty moves it to the MV 14-yard line. SC pounds it inside the 5-yard line for a first-and-goal. David Espino scored on a tough 4-yard run to cut it to 42-31 with 9:16 left in the game.

It's too late for SC to trade TDs with the Diablos. The Tritons need to get stops on defense to have any kind of shot.

SC's William Tober made a great open field tackle on Kevin Chandler to prevent a first down and bring up and third-and-6. Then Joey Waters sacked Allan Bridgford for a 7-yard loss to force a punt.

That's one of the stops SC will need. Now the Tritons have to score. Tritons take over at MV 37-yard line.

SC's DeLancelotti averts near disaster and scrambles 8 yards on first down. David Espino is stuffed for a 1-yard loss on second down. Espino plows ahead to the 22-yard line for a first down.

You have to keep reading. You won't regret it.

DeLancellotti throws up a prayer to Graham Tenney. Tenney was covered by two defenders, but somehow came down with the ball. Prayer answered, touchdown San Clemente.

The Tritons go for two, and DeLancellotti gets blasted by Marc Millan as he lets go of the ball and Troy Madden breaks up the pass play. San Clemente has cut it to 42-37 with 5:02 left.

Do the Tritons have one more stop left in them? They will need it.

MV is facing a third-and-4 with 3:07 left, and Bridgford connects with sure-handed Kevin Chandler for a 17-yard gain over the middle for a first down at SC's 49-yard line.

SC's Dylan Reda stops MV's Jake Marshall for a 2-yard loss to bring up a third-and-10 with 2:17 left. SC is out of timeouts. One shot left. Bridgford throws it up in Alex Mascarenas direction. SC DB William Tober gives Mascarenas a slight bump or mugs him depending on your school affiliation. MV is forced to pump.

SC takes over at its 24-yard line with 2:04 remaining.

DeLancellotti scrambles 18 yards to the 42-yard line on the first play of the drive. Then its back-to-back incompletions to bring up third-and-10. DeLancellotti connects with Graham Tenney for a 7-yard gain and its fourth down. DeLancellotti connects with Tenney again over the middle for a first down at MV's 40.

DeLancellotti scrambles 7 yards and gets out of bounds with 44 seconds left. I can't take much more of this. This is a sick game.

DeLancellotti connects with Tunney for a first down at the 28-yard line and 41 seconds leftt. Tenney's pass to Dominick Ela is broken up by MV DB Troy Madden. Second down and 37 seconds left.

DeLancellotti to Steve Brandenburg who gets to the 15-yard line.

Incomplete on first down with 18 seconds left. In complete on second down with 15 seconds left. Incomplete and broken up by MV's Marc Millan. Fourth down and 11 secs left.

MV's Jake Staszak picks off DeLancellotti. It's over. Game over. What a game. Can you dig it? Yes you can.

4 breaks it up

The instant analysis after SC's first possession of the second half is the eggs are cooling, the jello's jiggling and the butter is getting hard. The refrigerator door is closed (R.I.P. Chick Hearn/The Greatest Announcer of All-Time).

SC picked up a couple of first downs. MV's Troy Madden should have had an interception on one play where the ball hit him in the face mask. The MV crowd cheered, but D.C. was quick to point out you don't cheer when the ball hits your player in the face mask.

But I'm not getting down on Madden because he more than made up for that play when he picked off Duke Lancellotti at midfield and returned it 50 yards for a TD. That gave MV a virtually insurmountable 35-10 lead with 8:45 left in the third.

I know it's early, but SC has shown no ability to consistently stop MV on offense.

There is becoming less and less to analyze about this game. I might be forced to start writing Halloween leads for every game in the county even though Halloween leads have been banned from tomorrow's O.C. Register by the Big Boss, a.k.a. Todd "The Man with The Plan" Harmonson.

SC drove to the MV 36-yard line before stalling. It looked like Aaron Jones, who hit a 50-yard FG earlier in the game, was lining up for a 53-yard FG, but then he punted. And it wasn't a very good punt. MV's high-powered offense took over at its own 23.

MV goes three-and-out, then SC shows some signs of life. It's alive. IT'S ALIVE!!!

Duke DeLancellotti connected with Dominick Ela on a 57-yard flea-flicker to the MV 3-yard line. david Espino took it in untouched for a 3-yard TD to cut the deficit to 35-17 with 3:47 left.

Did I put this one in the fridge too early? The answer is ... yes. What was I thinking. Ben Gomez justed picked off Allan Bridgford and returned it to the MV 17-yard line. SC's in business.

But MV's Marc Millan comes up with a big sack to bring up third-and-8. DeLancelotti hits Graham Tenney over the middle. It looked like Millan was stopped at the 5-yard line, but Millan buliied his way into the end zone. SC has cut it to 35-24 with 1:56 left in the third.

I never doubted San Clemente for one instant of "Instant Analysis." MV trailed 31-14 at halftime last year against the Tritons and came back to get a tie. Can SC do the same thing this year.

MV wide receiver Joey Branker just got some crazy YAC of a quick little slant from Allan Bridgford that went for a 60-yard gain to the SC 18-yard line.

Three plays after the big pass, Jake Marshall pounds it into the end zone with 44 seconds left in the third. The Diablos have pushed their lead back to 42-24.

The fridge is closed, open and closed again. I better stop with this fridge stuff. Never count a man out until the count reaches 10. Never start celebrating when the Fat Lady hasn't even started warming up her pipes.

Stay tuned ...

It looked like the Diablos were in danger of blowing a prime opportunity after driving deep into SC territory at the end of the first quarter.

A illegal procedure penalty and a tackle for a loss brought up a third-and-15. Not a problem. Allan Bridgford found two-way star Alex Mascarenas for a 33-yard TD pass to push the Diablos lead to 14-3 with 11:04 left in the half. That capped a 6-play, 48-yard drive.

Key play: Marshall's 20-yard run at the end of the first quarter.

Note: If the Tritons don't get any pressure on Bridgford, they will be in serious trouble.

MV linemen Alex Stamos and Marc Millan sacked Duke DeLancellotti for a 6-yard loss to bring up a third-and-14 for SC. The Tritons were unable to convert on third down and were forced to punt.

MV proceeded to drive 64 yards in eight plays to take a 21-3 lead with 5:14 left in the half.

Alex Mascarenas made a spectacular 6-yard run on an end-around play. It looked like SC had sniffed out the play, but Mascarenas put on some nice moves to keep the Diablos moving in a positive direction.

FB John Akiba capped the drive with a 9-yard run up the middle. RT Richard Sandoval had another huge block to creat a massive hole for Akiba, who went virtually untouched into the end zone.

Key play: Allan Bridgford let go of a pass as he was getting hit. It tipped off the hands of MV RB Dallas Kessman and into the hands of sure-handed WR Kevin Chandler for a 13-yard gain to the SC 11-yard line.

Note: This game is in danger of being put in the refrigerator if SC has no response.

Never count out the Tritons even though I almost did. SC responds wit a 10-play, 80-yard scoring drive.

On third-and-5 from the MV 13, Duke DeLancellotti found Dominick Ela on a swing pass for TD. That cut MV's lead to 21-10 with 2:16 left in the half.

Key play: Ela made an amazing one-handed catch for a 28-yard gain that got the Tritons to MV's 18.

Note: Did SC leave too much time on the clock for MV to get a quick score before halftime? We'll see.

SC did leave too much time on the clock for MV's quick-strike offense.

The Diablos moved right down the field on a 7-play, 74-yard drive to push the lead to 28-10 with 1:07 left on the clock.

Jake Marshall broke a 45-yard run to SC 29-yard line.

Marshall picked up 9 yards on a third-and-four play to get to the 12-yard line.

Allan Bridgford connected with Kevin Chandler on an 8-yard gain.

On first-and-goal from the 1-yard line, FB John Akiba powered it in for his second TD of the game.

Key play: MV went for a halfback option pass that was almost picked off by SC's Aaron Jones. Instead of SC taking over at the 20, MV ends up going in for the score.

Note: SC still unable to get any pressure on Bridgford, and that's mainly due to the O-Line blocking and the establishment of the Diablos running game early on. SC doesn't know if MV is passing or running on any given play.

It looked like SC had something gone after Duke DeLancellotti connected with Graham Tenney. But MV's Alex Mascarenas tattooed him at the 47-yard line to force a fumble. MV's Colton Fitch made the recovery with under a minute to go in the half. MV was unable to put any more points on the board.

Mission Viejo struck quickly on its first possession with an 8-play, 80-yard scoring drive to take a 7-0 lead with 9:02 left in the first quarter.

Jake Marshall had runs of 14 and 13 yards to start the game. Kevin Chandler had catches of 22 and 15 yards from Allan Bridgford to move the Diablos into San Clemente territory.

Marshall capped the drive with an 8-yard TD run off tackle.

Key play: Marshall's TD run was facilitated by a crushing block from 6-2, 300-pound right tackle Richard Sandoval.

Note: It looks like MV will be able to move the ball at will, so SC is going to have to find a way to keep up with them.

SC's David Espino took the ensuing kickoff 48 yards to the MV 47-yard line.

The Ttritons had trouble moving the ball, but Aaron Jones came to the rescue with a 50-yard field goal to cut the Diablos lead to 7-3 with 6:19 left in the first quarter.

Key play: Espino had some big returns last week against Tesoro and he came through with a big one to start things for the Tritons.

Note: It was good that SC got some points, but they need TDs against MV's high-octane offense.

SC's Jack Anderson broke up a pass intended for Alex Mascarenas on third-and-5 to end MV's second possession. That was a big play because Mascarenas is always good for some serious YAC. The SC defense needed a stop to get some confidence early.

MV held SC to a three-and-out on its second possession.

SC's Aaron Jones can also play some D. Jones broke up a deep ball intended for Joey Branker.

Jake Marshall followed the right side of his line for a 20-yard gain to the SC 27-yard line. MV is in business as the first quarter comes to an end.

Damian Calhoun, a.k.a. D.C. of "The Calhoun Six" fame/notoriety, and myself, a.k.a. Los Blogger, who are also known as the OCVarsity Entertainment Unit, are out at Mission Viejo High tonight for the South Coast League donneybrook between No. 6 Mission Viejo and No. 8 San Clemente.

I've seen Mission Viejo a number of times this season and I caught San Clemente's narrow defeat to Tesoro last week. I'm expecting a great game over here.

Two of the top QBs in the county with Mission Viejo's Allan Bridgford and San Clemente's Duke DeLancellotti (That's two Ls and two Ts, according to D.C. who asked Duke himself even though San Clemente has misspelled his name all season in its own program).

Both teams have tough defenses.

I'm guessing this game is going to come down to turnovers (Duh!) and who makes the best adjustments at halftime.

D.C. just inspired me to come up with the "Five Scariest Places to be on Fright Night!" Muuh Huuhh Aaaaahaaah! Be very afraid.

1. Interviewing Diablos coach Bob Johnson tonight if the Diablos lose.

2. In the Mission Viejo press box if those bees that are hovering around the lights drop down and buzz press row. I ain't scared, but D.C. is.

3. I wouldn't want to be Zach Rogen, who is covering the Magnolia-Santa Ana Valley game at Santa Ana Stadium. The roaches come out when you are all alone writing your story on deadline. Vvery scary stuff.

4. Cal State Fullerton could become a very frightful place to be with the Trinity League scarefest between Orange Lutheran and Servite.

5. Sunny Hills going to La Habra, which possibly owns the greatest homefield advantage in the county. Thankfully, the Freeway League has the 42-point mercy rule to take away some of the scariness.

Eight minutes to kickoff. I'll be checking in after every quarter to provide "Instant Analysis" from Mission Viejo-San Clemente. Stay tuned ...

I'm not talking about Michael Jordan, even though I loved the Gatorade slogan from the '90s that featured M.J.

I'm not talking about former SNL alum and Austin Powers superstar Mike Myers.

You know who I am talking about. I'm talking about the one and only slasher flick icon, Michael Myers.

Usually I don't advocate using a psychotic mass murderer as a role model, but let's look at Michael Myers' good qualities, especially, on Halloween.

Let's not dwell on his horrible character flaws. I mean he did dress up like a clown and stab his sister to death as a 6-year-old. That landed him a stay in an insane asylum. He escaped and terrorized Haddonfield, Ill., with numerous murder sprees.

Forget all that stuff. Let's get to his good qualities that football players throughout the county can use as inspiration to make themselves into better players. Dare we say great players?

Michael Myers is unstoppable and has great conditioning. He has been shot, stabbed, meat-cleavered, lit on fire, blown up and he just keeps coming. You have to give him props on his cardio and ability to take a shot, literally, and keep coming.

Michael Myers is not a quitter. He never gives up. Once he gets his mind set on something he goes after it with a single-minded focus.

Michael Myers doesn't talk any trash. As a matter of fact he doesn't talk at all, but he doesn't flaunt his victories or showboat. He just takes care of business.

OCVarsity Slasher Fantasy League Lottery Picks

1. Michael Myers - Forget Mike Tyson, this dude is the baddest man on the planet.

2. Jason Voorhies - Hockey mask, machete, incredible recuperative powers ... need we say more.

3. Freddy Krueger - This right-hander can bring it with his metal-clawed leather glove and he absolutely smashes dreams.

4. Jigsaw - This guy brings more torture than a 15-play (all on the ground), 95-yard drive by Tustin.

5. Chucky - Agility, quickness, overall freakiness and killer instinct.

O.C. football teams should keep Michael Myers' work ethic, drive and desire in mind when they take to the gridiron tonight.

So in honor of Double-M and in honor of Halloween, we salute you.
