11. La Habra
(12-2 overall, 5-0 and first place in the Freeway League in 2008)

Three in a row? The Highlanders look good enough to win a third consecutive CIF championship. Start with Josh Quezada, and that’s a great place to start. The running back/linebacker is one of the county’s top players, and is getting recruited like it, too. La Habra has to fill some key vacancies at quarterback and three offensive line positions. But the defense is solid, and the Highlanders have major momentum going for them, the kind of momentum that makes kids want to be part of the program.

24. Fullerton
(9-3 overall, 4-1 and 2nd place in Freeway League in 2008)

The Indians have to replace Michael Allain, a running back who was the league’s offensive player of the year as a senior last season when finished fourth in county rushing. Fullerton might have the Freeway League’s top returning quarterback, though, senior Dominic Ficociello, who was all-league second team in ’08. The Indians’ defense has a couple of all-league returnees, too, like senior defensive lineman Anthony Milone and junior linebacker Simon Poti. That defense got a huge offseason boost with the transfer of Dominic Greco, who was All-Trinity League first team last year as a junior at Servite. If any team will compete with La Habra in the Freeway League, it will be Fullerton.

Baseball: Fullerton rallies to defeat La Habra

The Indians (16-7, 10-2) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat rival La Habra 8-7.

Fullerton now leads La Habra by two games in the Freeway League.

Hector Ayon (1-0) got the victory in relief for the Indians.

La Habra had taken a 7-6 lead in the sixth thanks to a grand slam from Chris Gonzales.

Fullerton also leads Sonora by two games. The Raiders lost to Troy, 5-3
