Mater Dei loses to Westchester 71-63 in the Southern California regional championship. The Monarchs rallied from 20 points down and cut the lead to one, but Westchester’s Dwayne Polee (20 pts, 10 rebounds) and Jordin Mayes (21 pts) would cement the Comets’ second straight state title appearance.
Tyler Lamb led Mater Dei with 32 ponts and 14 rebounds.

Mater Dei defeated Brea Olinda, 51-46, in the Division 2 Southern California Regional final Saturday to advance to the state championship game for the first time since 1996.
Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis led the way with 17 points. Jessica Duarte was a force down low with 16 points and nine rebounds.
Both players, along with Jordan Adams, talked about how much the win meant to them in regards to Bri Matthews, the Mater Dei softball player who committed suicide earlier this month.
Brea Olinda’s Jeanier Olukemi led her team with 12 points, while Kelsey Harris scored 10.

Outlook: The top-seeded Tartans can tie Mission Viejo’s county-record winning streak of 41 games with a victory. St. Margaret’s notched the 14th victory in the streak against with a 21-20 victory against Maranatha in the ’06 Northeast Division final. The Tartans also beat Maranatha, 56-14, in Week 2 last season. Last week, St. Margaret’s defeated host Yucca Valley, 17-6.
