Gogue, making his first varsity start Friday, pitched a no-hitter as Cypress defeated Loara, 6-0, in an Empire League game at Loara.

Gogue, a sophomore left-hander, struck out 10 and walked two.

Before Friday, Gogue had not thrown a no-hitter at any level of baseball.

“But I had gotten pretty close,” Gogue said.

Gogue, 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, said his philosophy Friday was simple.

“Just throw strikes,” he said. “That's all.”

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Loara's Cameron Cox reached first base on an error.

The next batter grounded into a double play, and Gogue struck out the final Loara hitter.

Cypress (7-3, 2-1) is ranked ninth in Orange County. Loara (7-3. 1-2) is No. 7.

Check back later for more details on this game and a complete baseball roundup.
