Tustin’s football team – a Top-10 team preseason team in my book – has made a change to its schedule.
The Tillers will now play at Upland on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m., Tillers coach Myron Miller said Sunday night.
Upland was scheduled to play at Tustin on Sept. 8.
Last season, Upland beat Tustin, 42-21.
EMPIRE LEAGUE
LEAGUE FAVORITE: Valencia. The Tigers, led by returning All-CIF senior Greg Hammond, had a good December, including a victory over league-rival Cypress in the championship game of the Century Elks Classic. This league membership has changed. Still in it are Cypress, Kennedy, Pacifica and Valencia. Additions are Tustin, Western and Yorba Linda.
EMPIRE LEAGUE
NO. 6 TUSTIN (8-1, 5-0) VS. NO. 10 CYPRESS (7-0, 4-0)
Where, when: Western High, Friday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: This has been a great league. It’s been a long time since two Empire teams were in the county Top 10. Four Empire teams are in the CIF-SS Southwest Division top 10 – Tustin is No. 1, Cypress is No. 4, Pacifica is No. 5 and Kennedy is No. 7.

Foothill vs. No. 12 Tustin
Friday, 7 p.m. at Tustin High
Outlook: These two city rivals played a game of musical leagues this year, with Foothill moving from the Sea View to the Century League and Tustin leaving the Century League for the Empire League.
It doesn’t matter, which league they’re in, expect a big crowd for this year’s annual meeting.
12. Tustin
(11-2, 5-0 in the Century League last year)
Tustin might have been included in the preseason top 10 if running back DaVonte Young was eligible, but Young, who transferred to Tustin from Irvine after rushing for 1,631 yards and 20 touchdowns last year as a freshman, is ineligible and has moved on to St. John Bosco of Bellflower (where he might have to sit out the 2010 season).
21. Pacifica
(6-5-1, 4-1 in Empire League last year)
Marcello Giuliano is in his second year leading the Mariners. Pacifica brings back one of the top two-way players in the CIF-Southern Section, Joel Willis, an outstanding receiver and defensive back who is among the fastest players in the county, too. Pacifica has made the playoffs for 14 years in a row, and it might be a challenge to make it 15 in a row in the larger Empire League that brought in Tustin this year.

22. Cypress
(11-2 overall, 5-0 in Empire League last year)
Cypress lost one-time Orange County coach of the year Ray Fenton, who departed to take the coaching position at Webb of Claremont after leading the Centurions to the CIF-Southern Section Southwest Division semifinals, in which they lost to eventual champion La Habra.
24. Valencia
(4-7 overall, 2-3 in Empire League last year)
The Tigers are coming off of a rare sub-.500 finish, but they can always be counted on to compete for a playoff berth. They got the Empire League’s No. 3 playoff position last year, and lost to Tustin in the first round in the CIF-Southern Section Southwest Division.
