Elijah Brown commits — Butler

January 24th, 2013, 7:20 pm by

Mater Dei senior basketball guard Elijah Brown committed today to Butler University, Mater Dei coach Gary McKnight confirmed this evening.

Brown, 6-foot-4, is averaging 18 points and six rebounds a game. He has developed into one of Southern California’s better outside shooters. Brown also has become an aggressive rebounder.

He is the son of former Lakers and Cavaliers coach Mike Brown.

Elijah Brown said several schools showed interest in him, and the most active in recruiting him were Butler, St. Joseph and St. Mary’s.

What about Elijah Brown?

November 9th, 2012, 10:38 am by

With the firing of Mike Brown as Lakers coach this morning, the reaction in high school basketball will be — what does do to the future of his son, Elijah Brown at Mater Dei?

Mater Dei coach Gary McKnight expects Brown, a very good 6-foot-3 senior guard for the Monarchs, will be on the team all season.

“I can’t speak for the family,” McKnight said. “But I would not think that Elijah will move someplace else during his senior year.”

From what I have seen, Elijah Brown likes Mater Dei, the basketball program and his teammates.

Mater Dei has three players with famous sports dads — Elijah Brown; Michael Cage Jr., son of the former Clipper who played 16 NBA seasons; and Jordan Strawberry, son of former Mets and Dodgers outfielder Darryl Strawberry.

Elijah Brown eligible at Mater Dei

November 28th, 2011, 1:57 pm by

And the reason we bring that up is because Nirra Fields of Mater Dei girls basketball has been declared ineligible by the CIF-Southern Section. Fields’ legal guardian is Lakers new coach Mike Brown. Elijah Brown, a junior at Mater Dei, is Brown’s son. The CIF-SS website states that Elijah has been declared eligible at Mater Dei via a valid change of residence, and Brown has been practicing with the Monarchs and is good to go for the 2011-12 season.
