Football: El Toro will beat Trabuco Hills

It's my opinion, but after seeing both teams this year I'm going with that bold prediction.

If there's a more improved team in the county this year than El Toro, I would love to see it. The Chargers are so much better, I do believe they will beat out Trabuco Hills for the Sea View League title.

I'm not sold on the Mustangs as much as I'm sold on the Chargers.

There common opponents are San Clemente and Laguna Hills. TH lost to SC 21-3, beat LH 27-0. ET lost to SC 35-14, beat LH 24-0.

Going by those scores, it seems El Toro would have the edge offensively, and Trabuco Hills the edge defensively.

I know they say defense wins, but having watched El Toro against San Clemente, I think Chargers win a shootout, 38-35.

The teams play in two weeks in the Sea View opener.

El Toro outside hitter Christina Bauch, the Co-Player of the Year in the Sea View League last year, has committed to Sacred Heart University, Chargers coach Brian David said in an e-mail Tuesday.

Bauch, a senior, has been a starter for the Chargers since her freshman year.

Sacred Heart, located in Fairfield, Conn., went 18-13 overall and 6-5 in the Northeast Conference last season.

Baseball: El Toro clinches Sea View title

A senior-started rally, finished by a junior, produced two runs in the seventh inning to give El Toro a 4-3 victory over Foothill on Tuesday at Foothill, clinching the Chargers' third league championship in as many years as a member of the Sea View League.

El Toro, ranked No. 1 in Orange County and in CIF-Southern Section Division II, will go into the playoffs as the league’s No. 1 representative, guaranteeing the Chargers (21-4, overall, 13-1 in league) a home game in the first round on May 21.

Playoff seedings and wild card-round and first-round pairings will be released Monday.

Foothill, ranked No. 8 in the county and No. 9 in Division II, will be the Sea View’s No. 2 playoff team. The Knights (18-7, 10-4) could be on the road or at home in the first round.
