Football recruiting: Two O.C. defensive beasts to roam Desert

Mission Viejo defensive end Garrett Marino and Tustin defensive tackle David Maka signed with Arizona State and Arizona, respectively, on Wednesday.

Marino and Maka are two recruits who could emerge as top defenders in the Pac-12.

Football recruiting: Tustin’s Maka commits to Pac-12 school

Tustin lineman David Maka (6-5, 350) has committed to Arizona, the senior confirmed moments ago in a text message.

“Closer to home and good education,” he said of his decision.

Maka said he was recruited as a defensive tackle.

He entered the week as the county’s top uncommitted recruit.

Maka visited Kentucky last month. In August, he was offered by UCLA.

Football recruiting: Tustin’s Maka lands second Pac-12 offer

Tustin two-way lineman David Maka (6-5, 350) has been offered by UCLA, the senior confirmed Thursday morning in a text message.

Maka also has a Pac-12 offer from Utah along with Utah State, San Diego State, Colorado State and UTEP.

The Bruins recently landed a commitment from Orange Lutheran offensive lineman John Lopez and in the spring, landed a commitment from Santa Margarita offensive lineman Erik Bunte.

Football recruiting: Possibilities abound for Tustin’s Maka

Tustin lineman David Maka (6-5, 350) had plenty of intriguing news to share Tuesday morning before the reigning CIF-SS Southwest Division champions took the field for their first practice in pads.

On the recruiting front, the senior’s count of scholarship offers has reached five. Maka has offers from Utah of the Pac-12 along with Utah State, San Diego State, UTEP and Colorado State.

On the field, Maka said he expects to add tight end to his list of positions this season.

Football recruiting: Tustin to celebrate Siudzinski, Maka lands offer

Tustin football coach Myron Miller was off to buy some cake Wednesday morning for a National Signing Day event at Tustin at 12:15 p.m.

Two-time All-County running back Tyler Siudzinski is expected to sign his letter of commitment with Air Force at the signing ceremony.

The Tillers also have two juniors to remember: offensive lineman David Maka (6-5, 350) and linebacker Ed Tandy (6-1, 215). Maka has already lands an offer from Utah.

“The recruiting for Maka and Tandy is going to be big,” Miller said.
