April 30th, 2012, 3:50 pm by

Three of Orange County’s hottest swimmers could collide in the boys 500-yard freestyle this week during the South Coast League prelims and finals. But after a grueling weekend, how much speed will the trio have left?

Aliso Niguel’s Janardan Burns, Mission Viejo’s David Heron and Capistrano Valley’s Nick Norman have entered the 500-yard freestyle – their best high school event. The South Coast’s boys prelims are Wednesday at Capistrano Valley.

The three teammates from the Mission Viejo Nadadores are coming off strong performances over the weekend at the U.S. open water championships in Florida. Heron captured the 5K and finished third in the 10K. Burns placed second in the 10K and took fourth in the 5K. Norman, 15, was the top-finisher in 14-16 age-group in the 5K.

Capistrano Valley’s Logan Redondo, the county-leader in the 500 free with a time of 4 minutes, 29.13 seconds, picked two different events for the league meet: 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly. Capistrano Valley’s Zach Ridout looms as another contender to watch in the 500 free.

Here are the boys and girls entries for the South Coast League prelims:
