DANA POINT – Dana Hills probably won’t win the South Coast League girls golf championship this season unless Tesoro loses its last two matches.

Less than a week after winning the South Coast League doubles championship, Dana Hills junior Taylor Nederlander was declared ineligible, a CIF-Southern Section spokesman confirmed Tuesday.
Nederlander, an All-County selection in 2010, transferred to Dana Hills from Laguna Beach prior to the school year and received approval to play varsity matches Oct. 20. Top-ranked Dana Hills will have to forfeit the one league match in which Nederlander played, a 14-4 win over Capistrano Valley on Oct. 25.
Nederlander and Dana Hills junior Jessica Perez defeated Dana Hills’ Margo Pletcher and Cassidy Spearman in the South Coast League finals. Both teams were set to represent the league in the CIF-SS individual championships, but Nederlander is ineligible to play.
Each league is responsible for submitting two doubles teams and two singles players to the CIF-SS individual tournament, and as of now, the SCL hasn’t reached a decision.
CIF spokesman Thom Simmons said Dana Hills investigated Nederlander’s reported residence and determined it wasn’t certain that Nederlander was residing where she said she was.
Ventura opened the fourth period with a 4-0 run and went on to defeat Dana Hills’ No. 9-ranked boys water polo team, 7-4, in the third-place match between Division 1 schools at the inaugural Steve Pal Memorial Tournament at Northwood on Saturday.
In the championship match, Division 4 contender Righetti of Santa Maria edged Division 3 contender Damien of La Verne, 9-8, at Northwood.

DANA HILLS (2-3) VS. CAPISTRANO VALLEY (1-4)
Where, when: Capistrano Valley High, Thursday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: This is the final nonleague game for both teams. Next year, when the 10-school Coast View Conference realigns its Sea View and South Coast leagues, Dana and Capo just might be together in the Sea View just like they were together for so many years in the South Coast before the conference’s formation.
NO. 8 EDISON (2-0) VS. DANA HILLS (1-1)
Where, when: Dana Hills High, Friday, 7 p.m.
Outlook: Edison went to Maui and beat up on Baldwin of Wailuki, 48-10, then, also as expected, followed up two weeks later with a 27-7 triumph over Garfield of Los Angeles last week. Edison might not be the Pac-5 Division challenger it was two, three years ago but the Chargers still are going to be a factor in the Sunset League, in which Los Alamitos has emerged as the clear favorite. Note: The Dana Hills-Aliso Niguel match was a scrimmage, not a official match. Sorry for the mix up.
Aliso Niguel’s boys water polo team plays host to border-rival Dana Hills on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a season-opener that has the makings of an excellent match.
Aliso Niguel is a contender in the Sea View League and Division 3 while Dana Hills ranked 10th in the Division 1 preseason poll.
The Wolverines are led by Andy Santala while the Dolphins counter with Drake Dunn.

Note: Ryan McMahon’s grade has been corrected on this post.
Mater Dei’s football team and some of its up-and-coming players reached the finals of the Air Strike passing tournament Saturday but fell to Long Beach Poly, 21-14, at Dana Hills.
The Monarchs were led by junior-to-be quarterback Ryan McMahon, who showed a good arm and the ability to connect with several receivers.
Poly sealed the victory with an interception but McMahon had an excellent day.
The player who jumped out the most for Mater Dei might have have been wide out/outside linebacker Thomas Duarte (6-3, 225). The junior-to-be is a big guy who can move. A few times, Duarte lined up on offense next to Josh Cook (6-4, 235), so McMahon has some very big targets.
Mater Dei receiver Jameson Field also had a big day.
