ALNUT - Corona del Mar's boys just won their heat of the 200-yard medley relay (seaosn-best 1:36.28) here at the Division I prelims. Edison is now up but the Chargers don't have Tom Shields on their relay. Shields appears to be headed toward the 200 and 400 free relays. He keeps saying he's a sprinter - so I guess I've got to believe him.
Newport also was quick with a 1:36.30. Yucaipa was a No. 4 seed but appears to have some depth issues - Yuc touched in 1:48.30 for last in their heat.
That means Newport, Edison, CdM and Capo could bebig-time title contenders here. Newport already has 20 points in the bank from Clay Pinckney's diving title on Tuesday.
