Cory Hahn fundraiser

May 26th, 2011, 9:56 am by

We ran this information a couple of weeks ago, but it is worth repeating … and, personally, every time I see/write something about a great individual performance during these playoffs, I think about Hahn’s play during Mater Dei’s run to the Division 1 title last year. I have never seen such batting/pitching/fielding exhibition in the clutch like that one. Probably never will see the equal of that again …

Latest on Cory Hahn

March 1st, 2011, 11:07 am by

The Hahn family still has not made any sort of statement or released any information on the condition of Cory Hahn, former Mater Dei student-athlete who suffered a neck injury Feb. 21 while playing for Arizona State in a game against New Mexico. Hahn, on a stolen-base attempt at second base, slid head first and his head struck the knee of the New Mexico second baseman. The injury required surgery later that day.

The Hahn family only stated that they expected a “slow recovery” and would keep that recovery private.

Some information we do have … Read the rest of this entry »

Update on Cory Hahn

February 21st, 2011, 10:45 am by

(Update 2/23: Click here to read a statement from the ASU coach.)

Arizona State’s sports information department had no update this morning on the condition of Cory Hahn, a senior at Mater Dei last year when he was O.C. baseball player of the year, who underwent surgery Sunday night after suffering a neck injury during a game for Arizona State on Sunday afternoon.

ASU spokesman Randy Policar said nothing beyond the official ASU statement, submitted Monday, would be released at this time. Policar said ASU baseball coach Tim Esmay would address ASU players on Hahn’s status later this week, and perhaps details on Hahn’s condition would announced afterward.

Hahn, a freshman at Arizona State, was injured during a head-first slide on a stolen-base attempt at second base, in an ASU-New Mexico game, where he slid into the leg of the New Mexico second baseman.

The statement from Arizona State:

“The university is working closely with the Hahn family regarding any official updates regarding the health of Cory Hahn, who sustained an injury in yesterday’s baseball game. The family would like Sun Devil fans to know that Cory has sustained a neck injury, that he underwent surgery last night and that he is slowly recovering. The family welcomes all wishes and positive thoughts from everyone at this time.”

More from an Arizona newssite.

And our story on Hahn when he was named county player of the year.

What Hahn did in the playoffs last spring was amazing stuff. Also, Hahn is one of the finest young men we have had the pleasure to cover.
