Buena Park DL Tupou gets offer

October 13th, 2011, 8:59 am by

Buena Park senior defensive tackle Josh Tupou (6-4, 297) this week received a scholarship offer from Colorado, Buena Park coach Anthony White confirmed.

See? You don’t have to go to a Trinity League school, or to Mission Viejo or Los Alamitos or Edison etc., to get the attention of the college sports programs. If you are good, they will know.

Mater Dei’s Johnson commits to Colorado

October 3rd, 2011, 8:46 pm by

Mater Dei senior forward Xavier Johnson today committed to Colorado.

Mater Dei coach Gary McKnight said Colorado’s upcoming inclusion in the Pac-12 was a strong factor in Johnson’s choice. Johnson had offers, too, from a long list of schools.

Johnson, 6-7, was All-Orange County first team last year when he averaged 20 points a game. He attended Chaparral of Temecula as a freshman and sophomore.

Johnson is a long-armed lefty who can slash and has a good shooting touch from the 12-15 range. Three players are the early-early leaders for county player of the year for the 2011-12 season: Johnson, Mater Dei teammate Katin Reinhardt and Orange Lutheran’s Gabe York … that’s in alphabetical order, so relax.

Sanchez to McKnight …

March 9th, 2011, 12:56 pm by

Throwing passes at today’s Colorado Pro Day workout — NY Jets QB Mark Sanchez, alum of Mission Viejo High (and he spent a couple of years at Santa Margarita HS before transferring to Mission). His target –  Scotty McKnight, alum of Tesoro. McKnight had a great career at Colorado, finishing at or near the top of several categories in Colorado career receiving.

McKnight was subject of some disciplinary issues at Tesoro. Good people take advantage of second chances, and that’s what Scotty McKnight did at Tesoro.

Sanchez offers plenty of praise for his friend (and perhaps future NFL teammate or opponent?) McKnight here.
