Edison coach White suspended for one game

August 18th, 2011, 12:31 pm by

Edison coach Dave White will be suspended for the Chargers' game on Sept. 8 against Garfield of L.A.

(UPDATED) Edison football coach Dave White has been suspended for one game for violation of a CIF-Southern Section rule, Edison athletic director Rich Boyce confirmed today.

Edison imposed the suspension, which will be served for the Chargers’ second game, Sept. 8 against Garfield of Los Angeles. White will accompany the Edison team and coach the Chargers when they open the season Aug. 26 in Hawaii against Baldwin of Wailuku.

White indicated the violation was for CIF rule 510, which covers undue influence and recruiting — specifically, the portion of 510 that deals with pre-enrollment contact — and involves the transfer of senior-to-be receiver Sedric Hill from Mater Dei to Edison. Hill was denied athletic eligibility by the CIF-SS office which determined Hill’s transfer to Edison was at least partially based upon athletically motivated reasons.

Mater Dei atty. discusses the MD vs. CIF-SS hearting

March 2nd, 2011, 10:36 am by

Scott Donald, a Sacramento-based attorney representing the Diocese of Orange/Mater Dei in their legal complaint against the CIF-Southern Section, said he was not surprised by the results of the hearing Monday in Orange County Superior Court where the court tossed out two counts of the six-count complaint, kept intact two counts and gave the Diocese/Mater Dei side 15 days to amend the other two counts.

“This was about trying to narrow down the case as much as possible,” Donald said. “We’re fine with the way the court ruled.”

Donald said there could be a filing of another demurrer, or the filing of another answer on those two counts on which the 15-day amendment period was placed.

Nothing substantive is on the court schedule for this case, other than a case management conference in April when the two sides’ legal representatives will meet to discuss where the case goes from here.

Mater Dei-CIF hearing postponed

December 15th, 2010, 10:07 am by

The hearing for the  Diocese of Orange/Mater Dei legal complaint filed against the CIF Southern Section, scheduled for Monday at Orange County Superior Court, has been postponed. No new date has been set.

The CIF-SS filed a motion to dismiss the complaint. The Diocese responded today by filing an amendment to the complaint. Contents of the amendment are not known at this time — we will pursue.  CIF-SS attorneys are studying that amendment. As the hearing had become based upon the motion to dismiss the original legal complaint, the amendment made that hearing

moot.
